OLD IS GOLD
I began this year saying that I must get published and now I am working on Four Books all at the same time. What a Journey 2024 has been! The First Book is almost done.
Yesterday was a rollercoaster. My social media feeds blew up when I shared my story... I had no idea how much impact it would have and true to form, the reactions came from the most unexpected places. For me, it was not even about the clicks, (even though that always helps with traction) I just knew my story, told my way, needed to be out there in the world where it could do some good for someone else. So for all those who took the time to breathe in and be still for a moment, I hope that little bit of calm helped balance-out your day.
More importantly, however, I wanted other men like me to see that their struggles are not an individual pursuit. Tuko pamoja! And while some of us may have taken the scenic route to Rome, we will all get there in the end as long as we #KeepWalking and #KeepBelieving. You are enough but sometimes a man needs a man to lift him up. Thanks Lucas Marang'a, ACC for leading. We see you!
Yesterday gifted me another opportunity to check off an item on my to-do list for this year. International Mens Day provided the Fora and Profiles International EA the platform through our collaborative #Chill&Connect Podcast. Wawawawawa! Lucas Marang'a, ACC went there. We were for real in the hot seat. He was probing but dignified in his approach. Some stuff was funny to retell and in hindsight, we could look back and laugh at our struggles. But some topics were still raw when they were rehashed and it took a lot of grit to keep the tears at bay! Indimuli Biko thank you for your stoic presence. You were the perfect counterbalance to the mad hatter mentality that is the embodiment of us storytelling types. The clinical perspective was necessary.
Therapy isn't a weed that we should root out and cast in the fires of our forgotten dreams. It is a doorway through which some of us must walk, in order to find the dignified help we need. So if you are struggling with something and you can see that your data bundles hazitatoshea, hebu reach out to us and we will help balance the scales kiasi. I can't thank you all enough for tuning in and for offering such candid feedback and commentary. See you at the next one!

Haya basi, on to the next. So here we are on this chilly Wednesday morning and for once I am not playing golf. I usually purpose to play golf three times a week at Karen Country Club and even though those well-made plans do not always come to fruition, at least there is a plan. My game has improved immensely because of pursuing a consistent regimen. Time to get that handicap so that I can begin playing some competitive golf.
So while golf does take a significant amount of time in my week, two other activities can top golf in terms of attention for my time. If you are looking quizically at your screen trying to figure out how I do it... hata mimi sijui. I'm stumped just like you are... Hehehehehehe. But seriously, I am just very deliberate about the use of my time. Here is a glimpse at a day in the life of Pablo Murunga

My Days Begin Before Dawn! My alarm goes off at 4:00 am and most times I am already awake. The two hours between 4:00 am & 6:00 am are #MeTime. I meditate, I pray, I write, I sing, I walk, I take and edit pictures. In essence, I ruminate on my life, and my social circumstances, and then I ideate. New ideas pour out freely at his time with few distractions on offer. Between 6:00 am and 9:00 am, I usually attempt a 10K walk within the hood.
And then, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, I do breakfast. I usually cannot eat before that coz my stomach is not awake yet. But I can do fluids, Tea, Coffee, Juices, Water... whatever tickles my fancy.
11:00 am to 3:00 pm I am back to work. This is when I meet people. Or process any admin stuff that I need to do. I travel off-peak only... either at 5:30 am or later on when the traffic has died down. It saves me both money and the stress of road rage... Hehehehehe!!! #Kanairo can be wild. "Me I love Kenya" but I choose my battles and traffic isn't one of my battle fronts.
My social interactions happen between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm after which my day is done. I like to be in bed by 9:00 pm because I can get into a workaholic frenzy if I don't temper myself, where I am burning the candle at both ends. Kulala mapema ni muhimu. #Rest my friends, kesho pia ni siku.
That's my life! Multiplied x 4 days a week with Mondays off. Weekends are a whole other animal because that is when I explore new boundaries and curate my own social events or collaborate with others in the never ending search for storytelling fodder. Which, brings me nicely to today's theme... Old is Gold!
My Ex used to call me a rug rat because I never throw stuff away. I pile it up in storage knowing that one day I will use it... somewhere or somehow. I am slowly learning to let go and carrying out regular spring cleaning has become therapeutic. I have chosen to store my memories differently, by documenting them as stories, art, photography, and curated historical analogies.
My first book is an ode to my year of rebirth (2024) and my years of turmoil (2019 - 2023) It is a collaboration of sorts with my artist friend #Joji who has also been exorcising his demons through his artistic pursuits. You will see my mind's eye through the images I take. You will laugh at some of the nuanced meanings that I attached to my imagery through my copy headlines or quotes. You will also encounter my writing in a space that is free of LinkedIn administrative restrictions. Hehehehehe... na sio kwa ubaya. There are just some things that I cannot say here, as great a platform as this has been for me. Artistic expression needs free reign to go where inspiration leads it.
So welcome to #Streetwise. I hope you enjoy the ride. This article offers some visual snippets of what you expect to find inside that book. You will be able to order a copy of the book from the 12th of December, 2024. (So watch this space for when the book drops)
Large Format Prints from a curated list of images will also be available for sale together with their digital equivalents. Finally, as a piece de resistance, Joji and I will hold an art Exhibition of the Original Works which will also be available for sale. How's that? Fair enough? Haya basi, wacha nirudi job! Duty calls.
Thank you all for being a part of my recovery journey. For listening to my random musings on LinkedIn and becoming a part of my carefully curated online #Fam.
