Online Leads Gen is Here to Stay

Online Leads Gen is Here to Stay

Do you think things will go back to normal in a couple of weeks? That this virus (and the normal flu viruses) will just disappear on a certain date?

I haven't liked or participated in very much outside networking for quite a while because of the amount of time it takes away from my business - and a compromised immune system.

Most small companies make the mistake of not counting their time as a cost of doing business - but most networking, if you add up the cost and time, doesn't pay off. At one time or another, I've tried most groups and being a statistician, I did the math - not worth it.

The internet has been a dependable place to find leads for most types of businesses for quite a while, but it's not easy to learn nor is it easy to do - in most cases.

Face it, posting on Facebook is pretty much a waste of time. They've limited how many you can reach severely - they make no money on giving you a free "town cryer". They want you to run ads, and boosting is their latest effort to make even more.

Many solopreneurs are trying the boosting now because ads set up through the business interface are very complicated and time consuming to set up correctly, so I ran some tests comparing boosted ads and "real" ads. The analysis showed that boosts were much less effective. Facebook is not stupid (but they bet that you are) - they know you'll take the easy way and they will make even more money.

LinkedIn is very complicated to learn how to use effectively and they limit you to how many messages you can send out - 15 "InMails" a month, and you can't save your searches so you can work them. Who can do business with that? Navigator is expensive and doesn't give you that much more. LinkedIn also wants you to buy ads.

Sales Funnels have gotten very complicated and you need an expert to make any real money from them. From a dedicated landing page (with a proven formula) for the ad, to a CRM to catch all the leads and let you follow up in an organized manner - it's too much for the normal business owner to figure out and learn the technology.

A word of warning - free CRM's and tools are worth exactly what you pay for them, but they can get you started. The problem is that you have to switch at some point to grow, so if you have any budget at all, you should work with a specialist (like us) to get you what you need the first time around.

By the way, I always warn against Click Funnels to develop landing pages - if you don't pay their extravagant pricing every month, you lose everything you've created and the results of it. You can never let it go - until you figure out there are developers that will do it for you for less, get better results and you can control and keep everything they do. Your landing page should be on your domain - not someone else's. Have you ever heard of SEO?

You should be using a CRM, and yes, people still don't know what that stands for or how and why it makes or breaks a business. Contact (or Customer) Relationship Manager stores every lead, keeps all their information, let's you categorize them (where they came from, which campaign they came in on, how they're grouped, etc.) and you can send out email campaigns based on the message you want that group to get at that time. There are proven formula's for that as well - more research and learning for you.

Let's talk about SEO - Search Engine Optimization so you come up when someone searches on your keyword (like "plumber in Chicago" or "business coach"). If someone charges you $100/mo., they are not doing what they should be doing and you won't keep the ranking (if any) that they attain for you. You have to expect to pay a reasonable price.

SEO involves too much work and experts who know what they are doing are not going to do it for cheap - we allow for a 3 month payout schedule as it takes minimum 3 months to do the work and not piss Google off by bombarding them all at once. Pricing is based on a limited number of keywords and locations. It's so much more than just keywords on your website.

Not all of these things have to be in place to build your Leads Pipeline - after all, it helps most companies to get their business going and have an income from it first. We have found a way to do just that with LinkedIn - it has 630M users, after all. They have recently limited their search criteria, but it's still good enough for most B2B businesses.

We've been able to build a leads pipeline, online, in half an hour a day and we're sharing that information in this time of need! There's a (limited) free option and plenty of dates with more to come.
