Are our Children really sick?
It's sad to have parents of young children complain of hyperactivity, ADHD, anxiety, respiratory and other "Disorders", when we know the real underlying causes are the world we have created for them, for which they are suffering...
- Please switch off all electronic gadgets from mains at least 30 minutes before night time and do not switch them on till 30 minutes after you wake up.
- The same for mobile phones and wifi.
- Do not allow your young child (up to 6 years) to spend much time in front of the TV/laptop/mobile phone in a day. Not more than 15 minutes at a time. For children between 6-14 years, not more than 30 minutes at a time. And not more than a total of an 1-2 hours a day, all gadgets combined.
- No gagdets for toddlers (<2 years please)
- Take them out into green areas - parks, forests, hiking etc. lots
- They need a lot of physical activity and peer connection. Sports, games with friends, non regimented (non digital) time.
- Sugar is a major culprit in the diet. Cut it out completely. Let them have plenty of dates, jaggery, shakkar, raisins, fruits, home-made sweets made of dates/jaggery. you'll find plenty of quick recipes online.
- Next are maida (white refined flour) and white salt. These should ideally be banned. No bakery items, only those made from wholemeal (not just labelled wholemeal). Use pink salt or sea salt instead.
- Children need ample nutrition in the form of solids and fluids. Give them lots of fibre rich foods, juices, soups, dry fruits (mostly soaked), sprouts.
- Water infusions are more delicious than processed drinks and make up for micro nutrient deficiencies.
- Add a lot of variety to their food and drinks. (Overall. At a time give only 2-3 foods as the stomach will need to work that much harder to process it.)
- Cut down on processed foods as far as possible. These combined with sugar etc. play havoc with children's minds.
- Craving for junk foods is a clear indication of nutritional deficiency. Provide filling, satiating, nutritious, fresh foods. The craving will stop and hunger will normalise.
- Use whole spices (slightly crushed) instead of powdered ones.
- Dairy is another culprit. A lot of dairy in the market is impure and not even real! Be careful, use dairy only from known, authentic sources.
- Do not allow children to watch TV, mobile, laptop while eating. They should be in the habit of eating relatively quietly with family.
- Most of all they need your time and loads of love, hugs from parents, uncles, aunties, grandparents!
