Everyday, Joseph, a history teacher walks to school with his son.
This practice is one of the most simple and relevant things that a father -or mother- can do for their son. By doing so, they share awesome things: words and gestures. Words mean emotions, values, interests, conflicts, expectations, desires, ideas, etc. Gestures that join the vivid and inexpert heart of the son with the attentive and wise head of the adult; by virtue of love both gather together and help each other to face the day that starts.
To educate our children is one of the most difficult things in the world, but sometimes it´s also the most simple thing. One way is listening to the children -or teenagers. The other is knowing them well to lead in the best way, to give the best advices. The best because the parents’ love for their children is incomparable and because those words are suited to the concrete person that is every son.
Who is your son/ daughter and what is the best for him/ hers is not written in a book, it's a knowledge that requires your personal treatment, love and time.
So, inasmuch as possible, do as Joseph. Look for a moment every day or every week to stay together without any other presence or distraction (like electronics devices) and listen and talk to your children.
