Page Executive: 2nd Global Banking Centers Debate in Poland
The shared services and centers of excellence sector in Poland has been growing exponentially over the last 15 years – the industry now employs 330,00 people; 44,000 of them work for centers of international banks and other financial institutions. 7 of the 10 largest global investment banks and 13 of the 50 largest global banks overall have established centers in Poland. A number of them have also opened a 2nd center in the country. The biggest investors employ more than 4,000 people each in their centers.
On 28.03.2019, Page Executive organized a 2nd debate in Warsaw for Center and HR Heads to discuss topics important for the sector. The event was led by Mariusz Grendowicz, one of the most prominent bankers in Poland and hosted by Iwona Dudzińska, Citi Managing Director, at their premises. During the 1st debate in September 2018, we identified and summarized many topics important for the industry. This time we focused on practical ideas that could be implemented for the benefit of the sector. This edition was attended by representatives of Aviva, BNP Paribas Securities, Citi, Credit Suisse, NatWest, Metlife and Moneygram.
We talked about a broad range of topics, including marketing the complexity of jobs in the sector, which evolved from basic and repetitive operational tasks to sophisticated roles in finance, technology, HR and other functions, now being delivered on a regional and global scale by centers in Poland.
We discussed sector branding – the banking and financial services hubs have less to do with typical operational SSCs than with global leading financial institutions, Fintechs and technology companies. The corporate culture is robust and positive for millennials.
Inclusion & diversity is one of the key topics on the agenda of leaders within the sector, with focus on foreigners, ethnic minorities, LGBT, people with disabilities and promoting mental health initiatives.
We debated partnering with universities on the sector level to ensure the new reality of the industry reaches a broader audience.
Another topic discussed was cooperation with banks which, due to a consolidation trend in the sector, will be letting thousands of people go – some of whom could find employment in the sector.
We plan to meet on a regular basis every 6 months, with the next edition planned Credit Suisse in Warsaw. Attendees of this edition:
