CHAPTER 8
INT. FRANKIE VOLTA’S BREWERY –
TOILET - NIGHT
Rob combs his hair in front of
toilet mirror and fixes his
new shirt.
BAR COUNTER
Frankie Volta bends down to catch
a miniature plane under the bar
counter. He puts it on the bar
counter and we can observes at
a row of them. Frankie Volta
catches another miniature plane
and watches it closely. He is
inside of his thoughts.
He simulates a take off and a
flight with the miniature plane
and after that he simulates a
landing at the bar counter. Rob
comes and watches his boss.
ROB
Boss... You really like
those little planes. Did
you want to be a pilot?
Frankie Volta turns to Rob.
FRANKIE VOLTA
(sad)
Yes.
Rob takes his apron from the
bar counter and puts it.
ROB
You tried?
Frankie Volta lowers his head.
FRANKIE VOLTA
(sad)
Yes... Two times.
ROB
Boss... Why didn’t you
tried again?
FRANKIE VOLTA
(sad)
I don’t know.
ROB
If that was your dream,
you should try again.
Frankie Volta turns to Rob
and stares on his eyes.
FRANKIE VOLTA
Sometimes a dream can kill
you inside yourself.
He gives his back to Rob and
we can observes the miniature
planes for a while. After that,
Frankie Volta turns back.
FRANKIE VOLTA
(continuing)
Okay. Let's go to work.
Some regular customers ENTERS.
Rob gets ready to serves them and
Frankie Volta puts his miniature
planes under the bar counter. Ted
ENTERS and sits on the bar stool.
FRANKIE VOLTA
How you doing, Ted?
TED
(stuttering)
Just working. Cats and
dogs in my head.
FRANKIE VOLTA
Me too. Raindrops keep
falling on my head.
Frankie Volta watches Rob that
plays with customers on the TABLES.
Frankie shakes his head negatively
and turns to Ted.
FRANKIE VOLTA
(continuing)
Non-alcoholic beer?
TED
(stuttering)
Yes. One special.
Frankie Volta gets a bottle and
serves Ted. Rob comes.
ROB
(smiling)
Hey boss... Four beers
to table two and three
to table five. That is
the best job of this city.
Frankie Volta puts the beers on
the tray. Rob turns to Ted and
watches him.
ROB
Hi, hottie.
Rob walks to the TABLES with his
tray and Ted watches him. After
that, Ted turns to Frankie Volta.
TED
(stuttering)
What’s wrong with your waiter?
FRANKIE VOLTA
He’s my bouncer.
Ted watches Rob again that plays
with customers and shows his
clothes to them.
TED
(stuttering)
He doesn't look like a bouncer.
Frankie Volta serves a drink for
himself.
FRANKIE VOLTA
I know.
INT. THE PAINTING’S HOUSE –
DOOR ENTRANCE - NIGHT
SOUNDS of a key opens the door.
Sophia ENTERS with two bags from
the shop. She closes the door and
walks toward to the master bedroom.
MASTER BEDROOM
Sophia puts her bags on the closet.
Jesse sleeps with is face down on
the bed with his shoes and his usual
suit. Artie sleeps under the bed.
Sophia takes off her clothes and
walks to the bathroom.
DOOR ENTRANCE
SOUNDS of a key opens the door. Sam
ENTERS. He closes the door and walks
toward to the master bedroom.
MASTER BEDROOM
Sam puts his briefcase on the bed.
After that, he takes off his tie.
SAM
Hi, honey. I'm home.
Sam takes off his shoes.
SOPHIA (O.S.)
How was your day?
Sam takes off his pants.
SAM
Heavy.
Jesse wakes up.
JESSE
Can you two shut up your
mouth, please? I'm trying
to sleep.
Sam goes to the bathroom.
Jesse rubs his eyes with
his hands.
INT.FRANKIE VOLTA’S BREWERY –
BAR COUNTER – NIGHT - CONTINUES
Frankie Volta shows Ted some of
his miniature planes.
Ted catches one and plays with it
a little. Rob watches Ted and
comes close of him.
ROB
So cute.
Ted turns to Rob.
TED
(stuttering)
The planes?
ROB
No. You.
From the TABLES, a MAN#1 and MAN#2
plays an arm wrestling and a GLASS
falls to the floor and breaks.
Frankie Volta watches MAN#1 and
MAN#2 and turns to Rob.
ROB
Okay boss... I know,
do your job.
Rob takes a broom and dustpan.
He walks toward the TABLES. Ted
watches Rob and after that, turns
to Frankie Volta that cleans the
bar counter.
TED
(stuttering)
He’s funny.
FRANKIE VOLTA
I know.
TABLES
Rob comes close of MAN#1 and MAN#2.
ROB
Guys... Could you please,
don’t do that. You can
get hurt.
Rob collects the broken glass with
the dustpan and broom. After that,
Rob walks towards the bar counter.
MAN#1 and MAN#2 watches Rob and
laughs.
EXT. ROOF – NOWADAYS - NIGHT
We can observes all around for a
while. After that, from the distance,
George is near the eaves. He has a
book in his hand. George sits down
and we observes that the book is the
HOLY BIBLE. George watches the horizon
for a moment. After that, a strange
WIND blows. George opens the bible
and reads Psalms, 39.
GEORGE (V.O.)
I said--
The ROOF’S DOOR opens alone.
GEORGE (V.O.)
I will take heed to my ways,
that I sin not with my tongue:
I will keep my mouth
with a bridle, while the
wicked is before me.
EXT. STREET OF THE OLD BUILDING –
SIDEWALK – NIGHT
Desdemona walks, stops in front of
the old building for a while and
watches it. Desdemona takes off her
sunglasses. She closes her eyes for
a while. After that, she puts her
sunglasses again.
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
I was dumb with silence,
I held my peace, even from
good; and my sorrow was
stirred.
Desdemona walks again.
EXT. OLIVIA’S HOUSE -
DOOR ENTRANCE – NIGHT
SOUNDS of a key opens the door.
Olivia EXITS. She closes the door,
watches The Painting’s House for a
while in front of her house and
walks toward the SIDEWALK.
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
My heart was hot within me,
while I was musing the fire
burned: then spake I with
my tongue.
INT. THE PAINTING’S HOUSE –
MASTER BEDROOM – NIGHT
Jesse sleeps with is face down
on the bed with his shoes and
his usual suit.
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
Lord, make me to know mine
end, and the measure of my
days, what it is; that I
may know how frail I am.
LIVING ROOM
Sam sits on the COUCH next to
Sophia and they watches TV in
MOS (Mit Out Sound).
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
Behold, thou hast made my
days as an handbreadth;
and mine age is as nothing
before thee: verily every
man at his best state is
altogether vanity.
Sophia gets the dish with some
food from the couch and we can
observes The Painting on the
wall for a while.
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
Surely every man walketh
in a vain shew: surely they
are disquieted in vain: he
heapeth up riches, and
knoweth not who shall gather
them.
Gradativelly we comes close
at The Painting.
EXT. STREET OF THE PAINTING’S
HOUSE – SIDEWALK - NIGHT
Mrs. Ruby strolls with Marlow
that smells the walls.
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
And now, Lord, what wait I for?
My hope is in thee.
EXT. FRANKIE VOLTA’S BREWERY –
SIDEWALK – NIGHT
Josh Willeson, 29 years old, walks,
stops and turns on his BACK for a
while. Now, Josh is (Billy embodied).
He walks again, crosses the street
and walks next to the BREWERY.
Desdemona follows Josh
(Billy embodied). She wears the
same clothes: mini-skirt, high
heels and sunglasses.
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
Deliver me from all my
transgressions: make me
not the reproach of the
foolish.
INT. THE PAINTING’S HOUSE –
MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT
Artie sleeps under the bed
and Jesse sleeps on the bed.
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
I was dumb, I opened not
my mouth; because thou
didst it.
Artie wakes up, comes close
the bed and jumps in it.
INT. FRANKIE VOLTA’S BREWERY –
TABLES - NIGHT
Rob uses his apron, walks and
gets the glasses of beer. He
stops and watches around.
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
Remove thy stroke away from
me: I am consumed by the blow
of thine hand.
BAR COUNTER
Frankie Volta puts his miniature
planes on rows and watches it for
a while. After that, he cleans
the beer glasses.
GEORGE (V.O.)
(continuing)
When thou with rebukes dost
correct man for iniquity,
thou makest his beauty to
consume away like a moth:
surely every man is vanity.
EXT. FRANKIE VOLTA’S BREWERY –
SIDEWALK – NIGHT - CONTINUES
Josh (Billy embodied) walks and
after that, stops for a moment on
the DOOR ENTRANCE. He watches
around and ENTERS. Near there,
Desdemona walks, stops for a while
and watches around. She takes off
her SUNGLASSES and closes her EYES.
GEORGE
(continuing)
Hear my prayer, O Lord, and
give ear unto my cry; hold
not thy peace at my tears:
for I am a stranger with
thee, and a sojourner, as
all my fathers were.
Desdemona opens her EYES and puts
her SUNGLASSES again. She walks
toward to the BREWERY.
EXT. ROOF – NOWADAYS -
NIGHT - CONTINUES
George continues with his Holy
Bible opens in his hand and reads
the end of Psalms, 39.
GEORGE
(continuing)
O spare me, that I may recover
strength, before I go hence,
and be no more.
A strange WIND blows again and the
ROOF’S DOOR closes alone. After
that, George closes the Holy Bible
too and watches the horizon.
