Paranoid Andriod takes a Magic Leap.
Hi Folks! It's been longer than I expected but I had to take some personal time off from Recap. However, I'm happy to return with this double-issue round-up of interesting AI and Spatial Computing tech news and insights through April and May 2024.
Let's get started by looking at some breaking news:
Google XR
For about a year, we have been hearing about a new Google XR project, one that includes Samsung and Qualcomm. So when we hear that Google is planning to use some magical tech from the mighty Magic Leap, we have to wonder what they have got in store for us. Apple went the 'goggles' route to sell us Mixed Reality via a big screen, but if Google et al, go 'glasses' will we get waveguide MR in a more natural feeling product?
Talking of displays, we heard of some new and fantastical tech in the pipeline:
Displays
A new type of Hologram, Metaholograms:
And, miniaturisation means lighter, smaller holographic displays:
Spatial Computing
It seems that Spatial Computing is being adopted more and more in real-world use cases.
British Builders get a heads-up.
D&AD top prize awarded to Apple for its operating system.
Improvements
The innovations in this sector never stop:
Apple - Digital Stone device
Apple patents show a new handheld interaction device is on its way.
Meta
Meta continues to innovate with new software updates to the Quest lineup. Later this year at Meta Connect we'll hear all about what's new, with mixed reality devices expected.

Innovations
Had me fooled at first:
Adobe
You need to see this. Making and editing videos is becoming a magical experience.
Personal AI
In March we saw the launch of the Humane Pin device, but in April we saw that it had bombed 🤦. Now 'Limitless' offers a similarly accessible idea of a pin device, but this time as an aid for your meetings.
Abracadabra - commonly understood as "I create as I speak". Well, we can all do a little piece of magic now...
Notable mention
Lastly, I wanted to show you this little device, a neat projector with touch interaction. Pretty cool.
