Personal, wearable AI, no longer pie-in-the-sky, as we 'Sora' glimpse about the new 'Galaxy'.
Pardon the awful puns. 🤦♂️
Well, the pace of innovation isn't slowing down in 2024. We're now past the first quarter and already have seen new devices land (Apple Vision Pro), and this month, (March, the one we're looking back at) Personal Wearable AI devices.
Let's take a look back through the month; here are some highlights I picked out. I hope you find it useful.

Handheld Personal AI Devices
Humane
Designed to sit on a lapel or as a chest pin badge, The Humane AI Pin is a really interesting take on personal computing for everyday life. You could see this as a personal, interactive assistant, capable of much more than what we know to be personal assistant's like (Alexa). Humane AI Pin has a mono projector that can find and project images on to your palm.
Rabbit R1
Not to be overshadowed by Humane the Rabbit R1 made the first 10,000 units available to their early adopters. The unit will learn how you interact with apps on your mobile phone and then train itself to be a useful companion for you.
Smart Glasses
Samsung Galaxy Glasses
This, in my humble opinion is the one to watch. Samsung are no debutants when it comes to wearable tech, but the announcement of a mega collaboration oath Google and Qualcomm (if this is indeed the unit they are collaborating on), for me is the biggest endeavour that will come out in the next 12 months (or there abouts).
Note, the form factor in this patent, Glasses, not Goggles; for which I'm hugely waiting in anticipation. If anyone can balance, battery, performance, durability and usability, surely it's this composition of companies. Watch this space!
Future Meta Smartglasses?
It's happening, and it's surely not so much of a leap for Meta who already have the Ray-Ban glasses out in the market. According to reports, we'll see some 'true AR' glasses from Meta later on in the year, possibly at Meta Connect, in October.
Meta AI Demo - Object recognition
Being able to not only acknowledge a shape, but also use AI to be able to recognise what that shape actually is representing, i.e. soft sofa, hard surface table, etc. This is likely to be is a game changer for the adoption of Smartglasses. Why? It means digitally represented objects can more accurately respect their real-world counterparts. Doing this helps 'sell' the idea that digital objects could be seen to be just as valuable and therefore create meaning.

More from Meta
Quest '3s'
The guys and girls over at Meta seemingly never sleep! Most recently we've seen a tease about a new Quest Pro, 'Quest Pro 2'. But, before we see that it's likely we'll see a 'lite' version of the Quest 3. Now it's difficult to see what needs to be taken out to make it 'lite', but Meta have a plan, no doubt.
New UI for the Quest family
It's not just the hardware, we'll see a new overhauled UI for the Quest suite of products. With more hardware companies entering the market, notably Apple. We've seen ever improving ideas about core UI and associated UX. 'Boz' from Meta has reported that a new design for the Meta UI will be better fitting to how we use the hardware.
Apple Vision Pro
Yes, it's actually happening, and it was only a matter of time - and the guts to actually do it, but surgeons have use the Apple Vision Pro during surgery to improve the efficiency of an operation.
I could see the training aspect, but they seemed to have jumped straight in with live surgery. My advice - please have a full battery!
Generative AI
Sora (from Open AI)
Open AI, earlier this month, released a handful of videos generated from text prompts on their text-to-video platform 'Sora'. Not that text-to-video is new (relatively speaking, I admit it's still magic for the masses), but the quality, story representation, fidelity and acceptability in these videos are remarkable.
At the writing of this article, there has been no news on a release date for OpenAI users, but, it's going to be an incredible tool for content creators.
Thank you once again, or maybe you just scrolled here to see how much there was to this article?

Have a wonderful few weeks and I hope to see you here again for a review of April. 2024!
