Passionate About Higher Education? Love Student Engagement and Wellbeing? Seeking Flexibility with Extra Income?

At Alkhemy, we know there’s a special drive among Higher Education professionals—a commitment to empowering students, amplifying their voices, and supporting them through some of the most formative years of their lives. But we also know that sometimes, those working closest to student issues could use extra flexibility or a fresh, impactful project.

That's why we’re recruiting experienced HE professionals for flexible, associate roles, including Student Engagement Associates and Associate Student Advisers. These roles let you do what you do best—activate, advise, and engage students—but with the autonomy and adaptability to fit around your existing schedule. It’s about bringing your expertise to meaningful projects while earning supplemental income and broadening your experience.

Why Choose Alkhemy?

Alkhemy is a social impact company dedicated to transforming the Higher Education landscape. We’ve partnered with Students’ Unions and University Services,

creating programmes that foster true student voice and support. Whether it’s through democratic engagement, representation projects, or wellbeing advice, our work is about bringing innovation and access to the forefront of student life.

Our associates are trusted professionals who share our commitment to the student experience. With each project, you’ll have the chance to dive into roles that directly impact student outcomes, expand your network, and contribute to initiatives that challenge traditional approaches.

What Will You Be Doing?

Our Student Engagement Associates are at the heart of democratic and advocacy initiatives within HE. You might lead workshops on campaign strategy, help SUs innovate in student engagement, or develop new approaches to governance. This role is designed for those who are comfortable working autonomously and want to take a hands-on approach to student representation.

For Associate Student Advisers, the focus is on providing direct, invaluable support to students. You’ll bring your experience in casework, handling matters such as housing advice, academic guidance, and wellbeing support. These projects are ideal for advisers who thrive in a flexible, remote role and can step in quickly to provide high-quality advice with minimal direction.

A Unique Kind of Flexibility

One of the things that makes Alkhemy different is our commitment to working around your existing life and professional commitments. Whether you prefer regular assignments or occasional projects, we offer a variety of schedules that adapt to your availability. Our associates are often professionals who have other work, and we provide the opportunity to expand your impact without a rigid commitment.

Who We’re Looking For

In both roles, we’re seeking associates with a balance of experience, independence, and the willingness to approach student engagement creatively. Here’s what we value:

  • Student-Centred Approach: A core belief in the importance of supporting students and a drive to enrich their university experience.
  • Sector Experience: Ideally, you have a background in Higher Education, whether in Students’ Unions, advisory roles, or student engagement. You’re familiar with the unique environment and challenges of this sector.
  • Independent Project Skills: You’re comfortable managing projects on your own, jumping in where needed, and making an immediate impact.
  • Innovative and Solution-Oriented: You enjoy tackling challenges creatively, whether in student support or in finding new ways to boost engagement and representation.

Ready to Empower Students?

If the idea of a flexible role where you can use your skills to create real change excites you, we’d love to hear from you. At Alkhemy, we believe in the power of student-led change and want to build a community of associates who share our vision of an inclusive, accessible HE sector.

Join us in reimagining student support and engagement — apply to Alkhemy today.
