People Analytics (PA) is an essential tool to understand the entire organization —  It helps you see what is happening, provides an opportunity to make data-driven decisions, and is a key enabler of management effectiveness.

However, PA goes well beyond employee engagement and metrics, but many companies have not tapped into the ways the data dives deeper to reveal business prosperity at large.

This global, industry-agnostic research will enable us to define the elements and dimensions of people analytics that have the biggest impact on outcomes for companies. To be clear, we are not looking at how you measure impact, but rather how you can create impact with a rich, complex examination of the data.

We aren’t simply reporting what is going on. We are combining advanced analysis to understand how to integrate data analytics to affect business transformation, talent strategy, and growth outcomes across the business.

This People Analytics research follows two key lines:

  • Global maturity of PA: differences in companies’ People Analytics focus, as well as industry, company demographics, and links between PA practices and superior business outcomes.
  • Insights and strategies: specific steps to advance and accelerate usefulness of PA to drive impact, in addition to identifying the critical elements of governance, analytics capability, culture, technology, and innovation.

The study features a multi-pronged approach, including an online survey, interviews with executive HR and business leaders from a variety of industry, references to past Bersin Company research and definitive guides, and external data provided through our research collaborator, Visier Inc. Results will be published in a Definitive Guide later this year.

Participants who complete the online survey will answer questions about their company’s:

  • Overall data-related culture, especially data literacy, transparency, learning and practices,
  • Depth and reach of analytics capabilities for decisions, modeling, and planning,
  • Level of data governance (compliance, privacy, quality, access),
  • Perspective on PA data, learning, experimentation, collaboration, and innovation, and
  • Degree of sophistication, functionality, and scalability of its technology infrastructure

With this work, Josh Bersin Company experts will connect the study data, interviews, guides, and external data to determine how people analytics can be used as a strategy tool for:

  • Talent sourcing
  • Business redesign
  • Transformation
