People of EDC - Atian Cziriak

Welcome to People of EDC, a series dedicated to celebrating the diverse experiences of our workforce by getting to know them on a more personal level. This week’s article features Atian Cziriak, CPA, CA , Senior Advisor, ESG Integration.

Atian Cziriak joined EDC in August 2022, bringing with him a robust background in finance and accounting. Atian holds a master’s degree in accounting and received his CPA certification, which were essential to his previous roles in finance and financial planning and analysis (FP&A), which focused on forecasting and reporting financial performance.

However, his career took a significant turn when he decided to take his skillset into the world of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting by joining EDC in his current role as a Senior Advisor in the ESG Integration team. “I was looking for a position where I could make an impact in an area that I’m truly passionate about and that aligned with my values,” says Atian. “I care a lot about sustainability and the environment, so I had to jump on the opportunity!”

Making an impact through climate reporting

At EDC, Atian has been instrumental in the development and execution of key ESG reports, particularly the Human Rights Report and the Climate-related Disclosure Report. His role involves end-to-end management of these reports, from initial planning and gathering feedback from subject matter experts (SMEs) to coordinating with external writers and overseeing the review process. Atian’s approach ensures that the reports are not only accurate but also impactful, highlighting the strengths while also being transparent on areas for improvement within EDC’s ESG performance.

"I think that one of the most inspiring things about working at EDC is having the ability to influence change,” says Atian. “Reporting helps people get a good perspective of what's going on across the organization. It shows where we're strong and where we're weak, and it helps to flesh out the strategy in between. It also brings everyone together to tell the whole story.”

Through his work, Atian gets to look at what other organizations are doing and push EDC to meet or exceed those standards. In his newly established team. Atian finds ways to improve current processes and procedures. Over time, he diligently developed reporting processes to ensure timely and accurate data collection and reporting, while also creating a more cohesive approach to gathering information from numerous stakeholders in the ESG space. Atian believes in being transparent and accurate in reporting, ensuring that EDC’s commitments are genuinely reflected in their actions.

Life outside of EDC

Outside of work, Atian enjoys spending time outdoors, often spending his weekends at local golf courses during the summer, and snowboarding in the winter. He also enjoys pumpkin and wood carving, which Atian admits might come as a surprise to many.

Atian Cziriak’s journey at EDC is an example of how passion, dedication and a commitment to sustainability can drive meaningful change within an organization. His contributions to ESG reporting not only enhance EDC’s sustainability efforts but also inspire others to consider the broader impact of their actions, making him an asset to the EDC team.
