People First, Always.

Personally, I found the last session with Sarah Armstrong-Smith on crisis management fascinating. I just adore getting stuck in to a meaty risk assessment and imagining all the awful scenarios that might happen during a seemingly mundane situation.

Slips, trips, and falls... fragility curves... risks, harms, countermeasures, and preparedness... failure mechanisms... Monte Carlo Simulations.... I’m all over it. It has been pointed out to me that I am a deeply suspicious person, so this type of professional imagining scratches that itch.

I was transfixed during Chris Gibson MBE session back in June as he talked about the wider scenes unfolding during the search for weapons of mass destruction, and how difficult it can be to be the brave one to speak up when it is obvious to everyone that things are going south; acknowledging the ‘sunk cost fallacy’ in the room. My lived experience of a crisis these days is, will they or won’t they have rocket when I’m doing a weekly shop?

So Sarah's session on crisis management threw up some gems that I am going to channel to maintain a level of livelaughlove in the face of negative forces – be it an unexpected tax return, a flat tyre in the rain, or a salad without rocket.

This is on point👇🏼

As Rupaul would say, “We’re all born naked, and the rest is drag.” Get comfortable with the unknown, we can’t plan for it all.

Looking ahead, we are currently smack in the middle of our Leadership quarter, with Speak Up Culture and Olympic Thinking bringing some incredible speakers, including former Simon Sinek contributor Stephen Shedletzky .

If you are a technology leader, and want to come along, get started by emailing me at: rachel@thecuriousmindset.co.uk . No sales. Just community.

Don’t forget our Book Club... It’s continuing to grow, with ‘Remote’ by David Heinemeier Hansson the latest addition to the TCM Library...

We love a book share

I thought I’d made my mind up about remote working, but there’s nuance and greys that matter. Seeing all your posts about the books on LinkedIn refreshes my enthusiasm to maintain a curious mind.
