Planning trip to FITUR, with... eco concerns.

So, the morning began with preparations for our upcoming business trip. This time, we'll be heading to Madrid to attend FITUR's trade show. I have a great affection for this city, so it's always a pleasure to visit. However, this time, perhaps inspired by having spent the weekend surrounded by nature, I decided to be mindful of my carbon footprint resulting from this trip. After all, I work for a SaaS company focused on energy efficiency and sustainability, so it's important to align with these concerns, isn't it?

Air travel carries a significant carbon footprint, so during the flight from Lisbon to Madrid, the associated carbon footprint is approximately 0.38 tons of CO2 per passenger, considering the distance and emissions associated with aviation. Therefore, for the round trip, the total CO2 emissions will be approximately 0.76 tons.

And regarding the stay, what is the amount of CO2 emitted for a 2-night stay in a hotel? The carbon footprint associated with a stay in a hotel room also depends on various factors, including the hotel's energy efficiency, the type of energy it uses, waste management, among others. The calculations I used are a general estimate based on some averages:

  • Electricity consumption in a hotel room can vary, but considering an average of 15 kWh per night means that for two nights we would have 30kWh.
  • Assuming an average carbon footprint of 0.4 kg of CO2 per kWh we'll have a result of 12 kg of CO2.

Meaning, my carbon footprint will be about 0.77 tons, assuming that the journeys in Madrid will be done on foot. In these cold days (and even colder nights) it will be tough ... but doable!

See you at FITUR, if you're interested about Sustainability and Energy Efficiency, and would like to understand how Builtrix can help your hotel on this, lets meet (I still have some free slots) and have a chat.
