eCommerce: is there "life" after pandemic?

The past few months have been a boom for the development of electronic commerce worldwide. Whether you were already an eCommerce buyer or just recently started choosing your items on the digital platforms of your favorite brands, it is a fact that we have seen an increase in edemands. The downsize of this eCommerce boom: longer delivery times.

According to ACI Worldwide, by the end of 2020 we can expect a 27% increase in global eCommerce transactions, as well as a 40% increase in online purchases with BOPIS collection. This option, available in an increasing number of stores worldwide, comes as a response from shopkeepers to the COVID 19 outbreak, as it allows the customer to maintain social distance when collecting purchases, and proceed all operation of the locker in a touchless way.

So, is it a temporary trend or will the growth of eCommerce continue to rise? It is undeniable the convenience that online shopping brings, and also the security in relation to social health. The troubled moments of 2020 only helped to speed up the process, but we can expect the trend to continue and that is why investment in advertising on digital platforms like Amazon or Tik Tok will increase 18.3% globally. All brands will join eCommerce, otherwise they will lose the race to the competition and will be forgotten by the customers.

For now, we can expect consumers to spend close to 160 billion euros on online purchases by the end of the year, as a direct consequence of the outbreak.
