Observability 2.0
In a recent blog post published by Forte Group’s Lee Barnes, the importance of "Observability 2.0" in quality assurance (QA) is emphasized. The article explores the integration of advanced observability practices into the QA process, allowing for better monitoring, debugging, and optimizing of software systems.
By utilizing observability tools, QA teams can significantly enhance their ability to identify issues early, improve system performance, and ensure higher quality in software delivery. The blog highlights how observability enables teams to gain deeper insights into the application's behavior and user experiences in real-world conditions, bridging the gap between development and operations.
I think if you are a software tester you should embrace observability as part of their routine QA processes to gain more actionable insights into application performance and user interactions. By doing so, they can proactively identify potential defects and performance bottlenecks, leading to more resilient and reliable software.
FYI Lee Barnes will be one of our awesome speakers at Automation Guild 25 talking about Valuable Techniques for Testing Non-Deterministic AI-based Systems. Don’t miss it register now 😊
Postwright Plugin
Playwright, an end-to-end testing framework, has seen a significant surge in popularity within the JavaScript and TypeScript ecosystem. And as you probably know Playwright's adoption is rapidly increasing, and it may soon claim the top spot. (that’s why we have some incredible Playwright specific session at Automation Guild 25)
Another trend that I’ve been seeing is testers leveraging Playwright for API testing as well. And have seen many testers having to rewriting extensive Postman collections—a daunting task for testers managing large test libraries.
A Potential Solution: Postwright Plugin
To address this challenge, Ademola Bhadmus has introduced a Postwright plugin. Developed as a work-in-progress solution, this tool automates the conversion of Postman collections into Playwright scripts. The plugin currently supports the following features:
Migrating from Postman to Playwright for API testing could become a common requirement, making tools like Postwright a cool solution that you should check out.
Can ARIA Snapshots Slash Your Ul Test Suite?
In a recent blog post, Callum Porter explores the potential of using ARIA Snapshots to streamline and reduce the size of user interface (UI) test suites. Porter outlines how ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) Snapshots can effectively capture the state of a web application, which may lead to faster and more efficient UI testing processes.
Traditionally, UI test suites can become large and unwieldy, consuming significant resources and time for development teams. By leveraging ARIA Snapshots, developers and testers can optimize their testing workflow, ensuring that critical accessibility and functionality aspects are covered without the bloat of excessive test cases. Callum highlights the dual benefits of maintaining rigorous quality standards while enhancing the speed and efficiency of the testing process.
Testers can greatly benefit from integrating ARIA Snapshots into their UI testing strategies. By doing so, they can ensure streamlined test cases that focus on critical components of an application without sacrificing quality.
TestZeus-Hercules 0.0.8 is here
TestZeus-Hercules 0.0.8 has launched, introducing several updates aimed at making API and security testing faster, smarter, and more accessible.

For those that don’t know TestZeus is an open-source automation framework created by ⚡️Robin Gupta designed to streamline software testing through autonomous AI agents. Its primary tool, Hercules, enables users to input test scenarios in Gherkin format, which the system then executes automatically, delivering results in XUnit format. Hercules supports both UI and API testing, offering flexibility across various testing needs.
Here's a breakdown of the new features:
The 0.0.8 update positions TestZeus-Hercules as a practical tool for testers looking to improve their functional and security testing without breaking the bank.
AI and LLMs to generate Playwright end-to-end scripts
In recent developments a comparison by Stefan Judis has been made between using ChatGPT and Playwright Codegen to generate test scripts. This was pointed out to me by Hannes Lenke Co-Founder at Checkly.
ChatGPT, a language model developed by OpenAI, is leveraged for its natural language processing capabilities to create testing scripts from plain language descriptions. On the other hand, Playwright Codegen, a tool offered by Microsoft, automates the generation of scripts by capturing user actions in real-time and translating them into executable code.
The article evaluates both tools, focusing on various aspects such as ease of use, accuracy in script generation, and their overall applicability in testing scenarios.
The post indicates that while ChatGPT provides a more intuitive approach through language understanding, it occasionally struggles with generating precise and runnable code, particularly in complex scenarios. Conversely, Playwright Codegen excels in accuracy by capturing exact user interactions, though it may require more technical know-how and can be less flexible in adjusting to user intention expressed in natural language.
While AI language models like ChatGPT and Claude can assist in generating test scripts, their outputs may not always be reliable without meticulous prompt customization. Playwright's Codegen offers a more dependable solution by capturing real user interactions to create accurate test scripts.
To enhance the quality of AI-generated test scripts, testers should provide comprehensive and specific prompts to AI models. However, for critical testing scenarios, relying on tools like Playwright's Codegen, which reflect actual user interactions, ensures greater accuracy and effectiveness in test automation.
$1.33 Billion Investment in Tricentis
GTCR, a leading private equity firm, has announced a $1.33 billion investment in Tricentis, a global leader in enterprise software testing.
This move underscores GTCR's strategy to enhance its portfolio in the technology sector, specifically within software testing solutions.
Tricentis is known for its innovative methodologies that streamline and automate software testing processes, allowing companies to deliver high-quality software at a faster pace. This substantial investment is expected to accelerate Tricentis's growth, enabling further advancements in their testing technologies and potentially expanding their market reach.
For me I think the key takeaway from this significant investment is the growing importance of automated testing tools in the software development life cycle. And the importance of testers!
AltTester
Ru Cindrea CTO at AltTester pointed out that The AltTester team has announced the release of version 2.2, bringing new features and improvements to its popular testing tool.
If you don't know AltTester is a comprehensive test automation solution tailored for Unity-based games and applications.
This update includes UI Toolkit support, enabling testers to automate testing processes more efficiently within Unity projects. The update aims to streamline testing workflows and enhance compatibility with existing testing environments.
By integrating UI Toolkit, AltTester intends to provide a more robust and flexible testing experience, ensuring that testers can easily adapt to the evolving needs of modern software development.
With the addition of UI Toolkit support, testers can now more effectively validate the graphical user interface of their projects, reducing manual testing efforts and increasing reliability in finding UI-related bugs.
