Population brings prosperity
In less than three weeks the citizens of our fastest growing state will head to the polls.
With more than 12,000 people moving to Victoria every month, it’s pleasing to see infrastructure squarely in the sights of both sides of politics.
The Andrews Government has put a $50 billion, 90-kilometre suburban train loop on its agenda which the Premier has dubbed “the biggest public transport project in Australia’s history”.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Mathew Guy has pledged $19 billion for a regional high-speed rail plan to help decentralise the state and boost regional cities.
Plus, there’s been a slew of other welcome announcements of targeted economic and social infrastructure.
During the election campaign, the Property Council has championed five steps to a more liveable and prosperous Victoria:
- Accelerate housing supply and choice
- Drive an evidence-led infrastructure pipeline
- Remove politics from our planning system
- Unlock Melbourne’s capacity to support a 24/7 economy
- Improve the tax environment to welcome all investment.
Each one of these issues is important not just for our industry, but for Victorian businesses and families who want further opportunity and prosperity, and to know that future growth will be well managed.
Commsec's latest State of the States report puts Victoria in the top spot for economic performance, leading the nation for growth, employment and construction work. This is an agenda that can keep it performing.
