The Power of Unity: Our Industry's Commitment to Fighting Breast Cancer

The Power of Unity: Our Industry's Commitment to Fighting Breast Cancer

I am filled with gratitude and pride for all the remarkable individuals that make up our incredible industry. It was very evident at this year's Canadian Meeting + Event Expo (CMEE) in Toronto, how much my network of personal and professional friends care about me. Thank you to everyone who participated in the pop-up fundraiser organized by House of MC Sourcing prior to CMEE. This event was organized in less than nine days to raise awareness about Breast Cancer.

As some of you may know, this summer brought an unexpected turn in my life as I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). This lesser-known, yet rare form of breast cancer constitutes up to 5% of all cases. Rather than dwelling on self-pity, I am channelling my energy toward positivity, strength, and education for all.

The Meetings & Events industry, which is predominantly made up of women, has the ability to bring people together like no other industry. The fundraiser served a profound purpose – raising awareness about IBC, its signs, symptoms, and early detection. Knowledge is a powerful tool, and this event allowed a space to educate one another and enlighten our friends and colleagues.

What I witnessed virtually of the event was truly inspiring. It showcased the immense power of our personal and professional networks when we stand together. As an industry, we have the opportunity to share this important message, raise awareness, and support those affected by IBC and all forms of breast cancer. Shockingly, statistics tell us that 1 in 8 women will be impacted by breast cancer in their lifetime.

I can not express enough, my heartfelt gratitude to my friend Christine Pearce and House of MC Sourcing team for initiating the pop-up fundraiser and creating a platform to spread awareness. The unwavering support has genuinely touched my heart.

I urge all of you to continue with advocacy efforts within the industry by spreading awareness and working together to support breast cancer research and education. We have the power to make a difference, with one post, and one conversation at a time. Together, we can and will make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer.
