A New Kind of Civic Campus

BKV Group is excited to share the first look of the new City Of Chanhassen Civic Campus! With construction expected to begin in June 2024, the campus is comprised of a new City Hall, Council Chambers, Senior Center, and park amenities with the buildings having a timeless design that sets the standard for future development and redevelopment in downtown Chanhassen. The building’s design also complements the existing Chanhassen Library by employing a similar center “spine” that is mimicked in the Civic Campus site and park plan. The exterior and interior design relies heavily on natural materials like stone and wood, reflecting the natural beauty of Chanhassen, and the park amenities including a playground for all ages including adult and child interaction, a playable water feature, a performance space, new pickleball courts, and a refurbished skate park.

Ellie Ziaie Takes Part in AIA Podcast Series, “Networking with Women in Architecture"

As part of the Minnesota Conference on Architecture, AIA Minnesota’s Women in Architecture Committee hosted six panelists for their annual session. In this networking series (titled “Networking with Women in Architecture: Woman’s Search for Meaning In and Beyond Architecture") co-hosts Katie Kangas and Kaitlin Joan Schalow interviewed BKV Group's Senior Associate and Project Architect, Ellie Ziaie, about BKV’s pro bono architecture committee, BKV Workshop, and Ellie’s work across multifamily, urban infill, historic renovation, and non-profit/mission-driven projects.

Mike Krych Interview with NAA on Office-to-Housing Conversions

Vacant office buildings and a housing shortage point to an "obvious" direction of retrofitting commercial space with apartment units and amenities – but is it easy? BKV's Senior Design Leader and Managing Partner, Michael Krych, shared his insights with the National Apartment Association (NAA), about specific conversion projects that "offer huge rewards" and "deliver one-of-a-kind buildings rather than cookie-cutter residences and amenity spaces."

Woodlawn is LEED Platinum!

BKV was the lead designer for Fairfax County’s Woodlawn Fire Station 24 which contains four drive-through apparatus bays to house two Medics, an Aerial, an Engine, an EMS Supervisor, and a modern decontamination and turnout gear facilities that will protect the long-term health of the firefighters. In November, BKV learned that Woodlawn was the first Fairfax County Government building to achieve Platinum certification! The County has been certifying their buildings for over 15 years and has about 42 certified buildings, and this is the first Platinum. Congratulations to all our design team members on this amazing designation.

Groundbreaking for The Continental in San Antonio

This multi-building project includes a 16-story, mixed-use tower that is seamlessly blended with the historic Continental Hotel and Arana building which will be refurbished and renovated into commercial, office, and creative lofts. When complete, this overall development will enliven the San Pedro Creek community and integrate the Zona Cultural District bounded on the outer edges.
