Read Anyway in 2022

Finished 2 more books this week: Tools of the Titans, by Tim Ferriss, and All Business is Still Show Business by Scott McKain. If it feels like you caught me in the middle of a mission, you're right. Why announce at the beginning of the year that I'm gonna read a book a week (at least) and then blow it? I'd rather get some momentum, and then start updating you!

I'm up to 29 books, between Audible, Kindle, and actual smell-the-pages books. I'm hoping to make a dent in the stacks of 'real' books I've acquired over the years, but then I've also downloaded 170 books on Kindle (granted, at least 60 of those are comic books), so I've got to start reading those too. I used to listen to Audible books when I worked out, now I just take a half hour a day (sometimes more) to listen while I take a break and play Candy Crush on my phone....

Tools was a 'real book' - bought for me for Christmas several years ago, and left on my shelf as I contemplated reading 676 pages. The way it's laid out, profile after profile, with a few valuable essays interspersed, is very reader friendly, and it reads more like a 400 pager. Great interviews, some really cool ideas - on health, wealth, and wisdom (deliberately broken out this way). Instead of putting it back on the shelf, I'm keeping it down to reference again when I'm in need of inspiration.

All Business I bought on Kindle when it came out, and just flew through it. Easy enough because there wasn't really anything in there that I didn't completely agree with - it was a great 'Oh yeah - I know that - why aren't I doing that book', with some wonderful personal stories and business case studies. McKain is conversational and authentic, and I've watched him enough on video to hear his voice as I read - which is always a plus.

I've had other years I've dedicated to reading, but most years, honestly, I read between 5 and 10 books. I'm working to get something 'specific' out of each book, so I'm not just mindlessly reading, but I know that even if I lose a lot of what I read, the important points will eventually stick.

Since reading seems to be a huge differentiator between successful people and unsuccessful people - 2022, and future years, will indeed be #ReadAnyway years for the #WinAnyway Guy!

I'm only into reading non-fiction, so can't comment on the other. Consistently reading non-fiction is a great strategy to have, but I think one only benefits from the effort it the reader puts at least a few of the suggestions from each chapter into action. Reading for sake of reading is just entertainment not application. I read only about four to eight pages of any book per day, which means it takes me a month or two or even three sometimes to get through any book. But, by the end of each book, I've already tested 1/3 of the author's suggestions.

Reading simple yet so rewarding and currently encouraged for all...

Thanks for the invite. I like your creative bookcase. My first take away; a little creativity can add a spark to our lives. Rich, I heard you speak live in Cleveland several years ago and I’ve seen you compete at the highest levels In Toastmasters. I feel I ‘know you’ enough to say I’m glad you passed my way. Your seeking, reaching, nature is an inspiration to me. Now I look forward to new horizons as a result of our connection. May the reading force bring you more adventure and wonder! All the best, Rich.
