Reconditioning and Recycling – Walter goes full circle
Not squaring the circle but close
You know what is really beautiful? A perfectly round circle – well, technically all circles are round, but some are just rounder and therefore especially beautiful to look at. Circles are great and highly symbolic. One speaks of the circle of life, you can say ‘going full circle’ and we say “squaring the circle” when faced with an unsolvable problem.
Now, we're not saying we've squared the circle, but we're going full circle...full circle of tool life.
Our tools can take a lot, but after all the machining you put them through, there comes a point when even the most robust tool can no longer do what it was designed to do. Now you could throw it away and buy a new one. However, that wouldn't be very sustainable and it's also unnecessary - the circle of tool life at Walter is a little more complex and very much more sustainable. Let's take a closer look at it - you will see that it is very round.
This is due to two more circles of which we are particularly proud, our Circles of Reconditioning and Recycling.
Reconditioning – it’s really that simple
Before recycling comes reconditioning, so we look at that first. When you start to notice that your Walter tools - more specifically your solid carbide and thread milling cutters from Walter Prototyp (from ø 6 mm) and solid carbide drills from Walter Titex (from ø 3 mm) - are no longer doing what they are supposed to do, instead of throwing them away, you should send them back to us and we will get them up and running again. It really is that simple. Just let us know that your tools need reconditioning, collect your tools and send them to us. Then we recondition your tools with the original geometry and coating, ship them back to you and you can pick up where you left off and you won't notice a difference.
Bam! Full Circle! This is not only convenient for you because you don't have to buy new tools, but also for the environment.
Win win, so to speak.
Recycling – Meet an old friend
However, at some point, even the best Walter tool reaches the end of its capabilities – and I mean really the end. Now even the best Reconditioning Circle won't help. But at Walter, we love circles so much that we then just move on to the Recycling Circle. For this purpose, we have the Walter Recycling Portal, which provides you with all the information and functions you need to recycle your carbide tools and you get money for it too. We will make you a price offer there, then you order your recycling containers for free, download the shipping label and you will even be told how much CO2 you are saving. Then it's off you go and you can watch online as your old tools are on their way to us.
Then it's our turn: We recycle the tools in a way that 100% of the material goes back into the production of new tools. Not a single thing goes to waste.
Bam! Full circle again!
So, if you buy a new tool from Walter and you have the feeling ‘Mmm, that looks and feels familiar.’ Then perhaps it's because you've held the material in your hand before, at some point a long time ago. As if you were meeting a friend again after a long time in a new form and shape and working with him again. Isn't that a nice thought?
So if you would like to close a few circles with us, meet some old friends along the way and do something good for yourself and the environment, why not take a look at our information pages on reconditioning and recycling.
