Refreshing My Mindset During the Christmas Break

Refreshing My Mindset During the Christmas Break

The Christmas break was the perfect time for resetting and refocusing my mindset. After taking five weeks off over the holiday season to return to the UK, I have been able to take a step back and consider how our lean hoshin strategy has been going. Hoshin Kanri (also known as Policy Deployment) is a process that involves setting objectives, developing plans of action, and then using this information to drive improvement efforts.

Planning For Improvement - The goal of Hoshin Kanri is to create a shared understanding between departments so that everyone can work together towards achieving the same goals. By creating a plan of action—or "Hoshin Plan"—all members of the organisation can see how their actions tie into the larger organisational objectives. This helps us stay focused on our long-term success instead of getting bogged down in day-to-day tasks.

Aligning Objectives with Strategies - Part of creating an effective Hoshin Plan is ensuring that all levels of your organisation are aligned with each other's objectives. For example, if upper management sets an objective but lower-level employees don't understand why they need to achieve it or how they should go about doing it, then it will be difficult to achieve any progress.

Reviewing Progress - Another important part of managing a successful Hoshin Plan is regularly reviewing progress and making adjustments as needed. This allows us to see what strategies are working well and which ones need tweaking or replacing altogether. Taking a few days off over Christmas gave me some much-needed perspective on where we are at with our plan and what changes I can make in order to ensure its success going forward.

Conclusion - Overall, taking some time off during the holidays was beneficial for recharging my batteries and refocusing on our lean hoshin strategy. With fresh eyes, I was able to identify areas where we could align better, review our progress thus far, and adjust accordingly for future success. Although summertime vacations may be more traditional for resetting one’s focus, I believe that taking advantage of any holiday breaks like this one can be just as valuable in terms of productivity and planning ahead for long-term growth!
