Reset your life

In one of my jobs during my career, there was an early Welcome seminar held for all the newcomers. The main purpose was to convey the company’s mission, vision, and values. At the same time, the newcomers had the chance to become acquainted with its structure and organization. Therefore during this seminar, each department head gave a short presentation. All information was interesting and useful but one stood out. It was the IT (information technology) department that had the sweetest presentation for me. I received a chocolate. Funny, I know! This isn’t a superficial conclusion, mind you. The way I got the chocolate was funny and interesting. It made me think as well, even though not immediately but years later. There was a question that sounded something like this: ‘Whenever something isn’t working right on your computer, what is the action that succeeds to solve the issue in more than 50%* of the cases?’ Among the 20 to 30 attendances, I was the one answering in a quiet voice, almost like whispering: ‘Reset the computer’. The presenter heard a voice with the answer but wasn’t sure who said it. Well, it wasn’t such a big deal if my answer would not be correct, so then I said it louder: ‘Reset your computer’. The next moment I saw a chocolate bar flying towards me. It was obviously the award for the correct answer. I was excited.

What about your life? You keep on going without any pause. You stay logged in for a long period of time, then one thing or another will definitely stop functioning properly. We can compare life with the computer system. If your system wasn’t reset regularly from time to time, will it serve you efficiently? At some point, you will be forced to reboot it.

Do you want to let it go that far? Isn’t it better to have a regular reset and cleaning from time to time? It is your life after all. And by resetting I am not talking about weekends or regular holidays that you take, I see them more as a maintenance service. I am referring to real resetting. It is a process that needs to be implemented regularly. It takes time, but time is needed to clean what caused any malfunction. Look at what makes you happy and update it constantly to a higher level if possible. Remove regularly the negative sources from your life, they are the threats. Make sure you empty the recycle bin permanently.

And then life is sweet again. You can breathe easier, everything will function properly, faster, better. You will feel reborn to have kept what was good and fundamental to you. Are you doing this? If not, the next time you need to reset your computer let it remind you to do the same to your life as well.

Reset and restart. Easy, isn’t it?

*The percentage may be even higher but it is less important for my analogy.
