The responsibility of leadership

Those of us who attended The Property Congress in Darwin last week were treated to some memorable insights into leadership from those within and outside the property industry.

At a time of heightened public discussion around issues such as population and growth, they were a powerful reminder of the special responsibility we have as an industry to influence policies and decisions which have a real impact on the lives of people who live and work in the communities we build.

Whether it was the former PM of New Zealand, Sir John Key, warning against complacency after 28 years of uninterrupted growth, the sharp insights of our own industry leaders, or the challenge put to the audience by Noel Pearson on how we define our national identity, there was plenty to stimulate discussion and debate. You can read more in this week's issue of Property Australia.

As we met, our industry’s leadership on sustainability was also being recognised internationally with Australian companies dominating the GRESB global and regional rankings and Stockland again claiming top spot in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

Further proof of the capability, innovation and leadership of Australia’s property industry on the issues which are critical to the future of not just our industry, but the nation’s wider economic and environmental well-being.

The Morrison Government has announced a royal commission into quality and safety standards in aged care which has been the subject of significant media attention. The Retirement Living Council has welcomed the announcement as an important step in improving the standards in aged care quality and safety - an outcome which we believe all Australians support.
