The Rise of electric Micro-mobility In The UK

Live in a city? Then it's highly likely you've seen an increase in electric micro-mobility transportation, like electric bicycles, electric scooters, electric skateboards, electric mopeds, and everything else in between. And that comes as no surprise, considering the government poured £2 billion into the foundations of micro-mobility such as bike paths, etc.

These investments quickly made e - micro-mobility accessible in multiple locations around the nation. As a result, it's influenced 52,000 daily trips on e-bikes alone.

Evidently, there's an enormous rise in the popularity of micro-mobility usage in the UK. To discover more about the "Why", I recommend you read the following:

Why is electric micro-mobility rising?

Apart from e - micro-mobility being a new, fun, and exciting way of transportation, it offers more benefits than you think. Including this, they can improve our well-being and economy as a nation.

  • Speed - In most UK cities, congestion is a problem. A recent report suggests that a lack of speed will cost the economy more than £300 billion in the next 16 years. It's a considerable amount, without question. With micro-mobility, it can diversify transportation and take traffic away from our roads, speeding up the traveller and our economy.
  • Affordability - Recently, we've all felt the impact of the forever-growing fuel prices. Currently, fuel is at a 40-year all-time high, and many can't afford it anymore. Micro-mobility scraps this completely but relies on electricity instead. Because of this, prices are slashed, with many rentals costing 14 - 20p per minute
  • Eco-friendliness - Currently, 43% of the UK's energy comes from wind, solar, bioenergy, and hydroelectric sources. With targets of reaching a Net Zero country by 2050 and electricity being the source of power for micro-mobility, it'll undoubtedly become a much eco-friendlier transportation option.

With all the national goals in mind, micro-mobility is the ideal transportation method to reach them. After all, with the growing population of the country, it can help solve many problems related to inflation, environmental responsibility, and traffic management.

What does the future look like for e - micro-mobility

I can rightfully say, e - micro-mobility is here to stay. With the current government incentives, investments, and the public embracing this new form of transportation, I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

However, there are still improvements that need to be made. Currently, e - micro-mobility is only accessible in most major UK cities. Ideally, we need to see these in more small to medium-sized cities, particularly in areas of low-income communities that don't live near public transport stations.

But, as you imagine, this comes with time. First, we need to establish a sufficient way to scale this operation, ensuring accessible e - micro-mobility routes, rental stations, etc.

Summary

After reading this post, you should understand the current rise of the UK's e - micro-mobility transportation system. Without question, it's fascinating, not only for EV enthusiasts but as a whole nation.

If our residents continue utilising this transportation method in full effect, I'm sure more government investments and businesses will focus on growing this newly established industry. But we'll have to wait and see how this goes in the future.
