Robservations in Law...small law firm talent acquisition strategy...

Happy New Year one and all..

The following is an insight into what well-managed small legal practices are doing as part of their talent acquisition and retention strategy as we head into the next calendar year.

It goes without saying that if your connections include a likely candidate BML would appreciate that you share this with them.

Brazel Moore Lawyers is one of the New South Wales’ Central Coast's strongest practices, helping people of the Central Coast and well beyond with all of their legal challenges and opportunities for over 40 years.

A strategic review of the firm heading out of the second year of the pandemic strongly has led to the creation of a unique opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic, senior Lawyer to assist in our very busy Wills & Estates practice.

The Role

Based in Gosford CBD, the full-time role will involve a full portfolio of  Wills, Estate Planning, Probate and Challenging Wills. With a wide range of matters, the role requires real experience, good organisation, and an unfaltering commitment to meeting the firm's client service standards.

The role covers other work, including supervising and mentoring as appropriate, and practical assistance with our business development is a given. In working closely with you to set targets careful consideration is given to all work.

Throughout the firm we have for over twenty years set financial targets taking into account reasonable time needed for all other work required to achieve our business plan, so no extra hours beyond agreed hours need to be invested by team members to hit financial targets. Targets are regularly reviewed, and adjusted where necessary based on accurate data.

The Benefits

  • A generous market-leading remuneration and benefits package dependent upon demonstrated experience and the key attributes you have that are needed for this important new role. Commencing range $120,000 to $165,000 inclusive of Superannuation. Reviewed at least annually.
  • 20 days Annual leave, one day paid Birthday leave.
  • Absolute clarity about expectations and responsibilities from us, as you would especially expect in a senior role.
  • Independence in running of matters, with generous access to a very experienced helpful Principal for discussion and guidance as required.
  • A thoroughly rewarding role in a friendly working environment alongside a strong team of committed people.
  • Genuine career progression opportunity with boundaries set only by your demonstrated performance across all relevant attributes.
  • A re-location allowance for those needing to move to take up the position.

 About you

You are an experienced Lawyer with good skills in the right types of work, empathetic, and driven to ensure the best possible outcome for our clients.

Your verbal and written communication skills will set you apart from the rest. You are organised and professional, and have a good grasp of the essentials for the ongoing success and financial health of a private legal practice.

You may well have gained experience in a large city, and now want to capitalise on that experience in a high-quality firm located closer to where you want to live, giving you more time to yourself and the wonderful lifestyle the Central Coast has to offer.

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • Ability to consistently work independently with minimal supervision.
  • 6+ years relevant post-admission experience.
  • Court experience and sound litigation skills.
  • Ability to achieve all reasonable targets.
  • A determination to fully understand your role and be accountable for all aspects of your performance of it.
  • A hard-working and dedicated approach to practice; very much a “can do” person.
  • A friendly, down-to-earth, nature, enjoying working as part of a team and helping people around you.
  • A willingness to work from our Gosford office, as the supervisory aspects of the role, and the critical need to support the Principal in managing the practice by taking new instructions and matter delegations, means that this role is not suitable for remote working in the foreseeable future.

About us...

Brazel Moore Lawyers is a highly respected full-service law firm with its offices in Gosford, established over 40 years.

We have a strong and ever-growing client base and are clear in how we need to meet their needs.

We know we need a very high quality of lawyers and support team members to achieve our goals, and to operate in a thoroughly business-like way.

Because we fully appreciate the value of all work, not just work directly on client matter files, we do not remunerate according to any formula involving collection of professional fees.

We work with each team member to set goals customised to their role as it evolves, aim to reward strongly with good packages that are market-leading, and do not accept that any of our team members who are a proper fit with our culture and business plan need to be motivated by a dangled carrot of possible bonuses.

Applications close 21 January  2022.

Please forward your Application and CV to our Practice Manager, Kelly Manning kmanning@gosfordlaw.com.au

Please supply contact details for all relevant referees with your application.

We are looking for similar people interested in building a next generation private client practice focused on wealth conservation, estate governance and administration and succession. Happy to discuss how our hybrid workplace may be able to help firms such as this. It is time to look at the connection between deep collaboration and hybrid work focused business models. I am happy to talk to interested lawyers and law firms.
