The Secret-Magic-Bullet-Formula for Small Business Success.

The Secret-Magic-Bullet-Formula for Small Business Success.

This post originates from a stunning home in the English countryside, south of London. This week, we have the honor and pleasure of working with a husband and wife, reviewing the health of their online business, and looking forward to the next growth phase.

As we consider their potential, we can't help but feel optimistic about the exciting journey that lies ahead for this couple, regardless of which path they choose to move forward.

They have made it abundantly clear that their marriage is a priority.

If working together adds additional stress to the already stressful task of ensuring day-to-day marital bliss, they would instead pursue separate endeavors.

During our recent trip to New Orleans, we enjoyed working with a business owner who was recently honored as one of the Top Fifty Most Influential People in New Orleans. Oddly enough, we spent much time last week reviewing the health of "the influential person's business and the consequences of bringing his wife into a customized position. This husband-and-wife-team is soon-to-be empty nesters - although not too soon, as their youngest child won't graduate from high school for another four years.

Working with this long-term coaching client (nine years to date!) always lifts my heart. Marc is a genuine inspiration. In the past almost decade we have worked together, he has transformed himself physically and as a CEO.

What is his secret-magic-bullet-formula for investing in his health to the point of losing over 100 pounds, while growing his company, all while suffering the loss of his partner and father to an unexpected health event? This secret-magic-bullet-formula was to accept gradual, steady steps taken one-by-one, renew commitment daily, and monitor progress by building a great leadership team around his keen understanding of how his business works.

This man is a thoughtful, intelligent, savvy, lifelong learner who never ignores his heart or values

When he bounces ideas off Rich, he consistently chooses integrity, honesty, and a willingness to listen to his coach. He is never afraid to roll up his sleeves and do the hard work in business and life.

If we rely on modern lexicons and nomenclature, this man would qualify as a survivor of childhood traumas. If he chose to fold in the face of the challenges of being the owner / founder of a very successful small business, you could look at his history and say "Oh well, that's understandable."

And yet, somehow, he has marshaled his courage, wisdom, and grit to thrive in his leadership.

He is, simply stated, a good man

I worry about suggesting the standard cliche: "Behind every good man is a good woman," except in this case, it is true. I'm expecting wonderful things to happen for the company because they have learned how to navigate one of the most challenging relationships in life, that of a husband and wife, and have come through the last 20 years together more vital than ever.

Fortunately for the company, his beautiful wife (Bridget) possesses all the same strengths. This whip-smart woman will bring fresh eyes to the company's challenges. Together, they will be an unstoppable, unflappable, and dynamic duo, each bringing their unique strengths to the table

With their potential and our support, we can't wait to see how they will grow and what they will achieve in the future.
