World Illustration Awards 2024 Winners Announced!

In partnership with the AOI, we are delighted to congratulate the Overall, Category and Cross-Category Winners for the World Illustration Awards 2024!

The winners were selected from a shortlist of 200 projects, drawn from over 5,000 entries from across the globe. They were announced on September 10th, 2024 during a fantastic online Awards Ceremony, presented by a host of special guest presenters.

Professional Overall Winner: mark smith

"The Missing Mouseketeer"

Mark wins a cash prize of £2000 as well as a two-page marketing package in the Directory of Illustration, valued at $2,700 US Dollars, including a 100-image professional portfolio on the directoryofillustration.com

New Talent Overall Winner: Kayla Salim

"Ama No Inori: Prayer of the Ama"

Kayla wins a cash prize of £1000 as well as a copy of the Directory of Illustration and a year-long AOI membership.

"FIT Black Student Illustrators Award 2023"

Jason wins a marketing package in the Directory of Illustration, valued at $2,700 US Dollars.

"Be More Darren" - Interview with Michael Arnold

Michael Arnold was commissioned to create an animation inspired by a heartfelt call to LBC radio, following far-right unrest in the UK. The caller's message of hope, solidarity, and love resonated with many, and the animation quickly garnered over 300,000 views across social media.

The Directory of Illustration interviewed Michael about the project, offering insight into its backstory and his thoughts on its widespread impact.

Work Showcase - Christian Dellavedova

Christian Dellavedova was asked by the Italian magazine Internazionale to illustrate an extract from Yuval Noah Harari's new book about the dangers of artificial intelligence.

Beth Goody - Case Notes Magazine

Beth Goody recently created the cover illustration for Case Notes magazine focusing on spinal cord stimulation, a procedure for chronic pain that includes a minor surgery to implant electrodes in the spine.

Ellice Weaver  - University of South Alabama

The University of South Alabama announced this year’s homecoming week with a lively, animated illustration by Ellice Weaver. The scene highlights the Jaguar “Timeless Traditions” that students can look forward to celebrating later this semester.

Gary Bullock  - Tayto Crisps

Gary Bullock created the illustration for a new crisps (potato chips) flavor, "Cheddar Relish," as part of a range of color scratchboard illustrations for Tayto Crisps, Ireland.

Maria Francesca Melis  - Urbanaut Brewing Co.

Maria Francesca Melis illustrated the label for a new IPA from New Zealand-based brewery, Urbanaut Brewing Co. Inspired by the coastal California region of Big Sur, her illustration depicts a horseback journey through a lush riverside landscape.

Sue Todd - Carousal Players Theatre

Sue Todd created the program image for the play, Hare and Tortoise, for Carousel Players, one of Canada’s oldest and most respected professional theatre for young audiences.

Sunnu Rebecca Choi created this lovely editorial illustration for Middlebury Magazine and Pentagram for the article "Water Ways," about an Adirondack adventure.

Artist Spotlight - Zoë van Dijk

Zoë van-Dijk is an award winning freelance illustrator who was born and raised in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. She attended the School of Visual Arts and graduated with a BFA in illustration in 2014. Her work has been honored by the Society of Illustrators, the World Illustration Awards, Communication Arts, The American Society of Magazine Editors, American Illustration and 3×3 Magazine. She currently teaches at the Roski School of Fine Arts at The University of Southern California.
