Creative Competitions to Connect with Children
Camden is currently the fastest-growing Local Government Area (LGA) in Australia, with at least one-fifth of the community consisting of children aged 0-11. To strengthen connections with this age group, Camden Council invited local children and young people to express their creativity through a creative competition.
Using the Gather tool, Camden Council encouraged young people to craft a short story, poem, or artwork centered around the following themes:
This tool also allowed community members to indicate their age group, with a chance to win one of three $50 gift vouchers for Narellan Town Centre. Through this initiative, Camden Council aimed to foster a sense of community and to inspire the next generation to share their vision for the future. Kudos to Camden Council!
Improve the Wellbeing of Young People Through Action Plans
Midcoast Council developed a Children and Young People’s Action Plan aimed at enhancing the quality of life for young people in the region. This plan addresses key issues such as education, health, and services to ensure better opportunities for the next generation.
Using the Visioner tool, Midcoast Council posed the question: "If there was one thing you could do to make life better for young people on the MidCoast, what would it be?". This initiative encouraged community members to share their insights, providing valuable input on how to help young people lead fulfilling and meaningful lives. Feedback included suggestions for mental health services, secure housing, and youth activities, highlighting Midcoast's commitment to listening to the community's needs. Fantastic work, Midcoast Council!

Inspiring Youth to Engage with Their Local Parks
The City of Calgary invited young people to connect with their local parks and reflect on what mattered most to them regarding the future of Calgary's green spaces. The goal was to help shape Calgary’s 20-year plan for the development, redevelopment, and management of its parks.
Using the Form tool, Calgary encouraged young people to spend quality time in their schoolyards or community parks and complete a series of provided activities. Examples of these activities included an "empathy walk" exercise and a project where kids designed their own parks through drawings. These activities were designed to inspire creativity, deepen connections with their surroundings, and promote outdoor engagement in a fun and educational way. Nice work, City of Calgary!
Demonstrating a Project Timeline for Decision-Making
Coliban Water is dedicated to connecting with the youth by educating students and teachers on the importance of water conservation and sustainability. Through engaging, interactive sessions and educational resources, Coliban Water hopes to inspire young people to understand the value of water and adopt responsible usage practices, to empower the next generation.
Coliban Water utilized the Accordion content tool to develop a targeted engagement strategy by creating an Educational Hub designed for students from Kindergarten and Prep to Grade 6. Each resource is tailored to different age groups, ensuring age-appropriate learning material. Additionally, Coliban Water employed the Form tool to invite requests for educational packs and free sessions. Well done, Coliban Water!
We hope you found these examples inspiring.
See you in October!
