Seven Habits of Positive People You Can Adopt Today!

Seven Habits of Positive People You Can Adopt Today!

When we speak of positivity, and positive people, who comes to mind for you?  That person who seems to be unshakable.  That one friend that can find sunshine in the middle of the rainstorm.  They are unbreakable even in the worst of storms.    Who is that person that has such an enthusiasm for life even on the darkest of days? How do they do it?  How do they stay so positive and have such enthusiasm and zest for life?  Most positive people can tell you that it didn’t come overnight.  It came with daily habits that lead to the positivity..  That doesn’t mean that they don’t have down days like the rest of us.  They do have down days just like we all do.  They just choose not to stay there!    Here are 7 practices you can add to your daily routine to help you develop a positive attitude in your life!

1.    Practice gratitude!

Each morning, reflect or journal on three things you are grateful for in your life.  Each evening, reflect on or journal three things that went well for you in the day or three things you are grateful for.  This is a great practice to start with your children and grandchildren.  I have a dear friend who actually wrote a gratitude journal for adults and kids.  Click HERE if you want to check it out.  (No profit is received for this referral!)

2.     Live mindfully!

Focus on the present and not past regrets.  Your feet point forward not backwards!  Keep looking forward!  There is nothing you can do about the past but learn from it and move forward.  Avoid becoming anxious about the future that hasn’t happened yet.  Focus on the here and now.  Be connected with the world and appreciate the simple things of life.

3.    Limit Negativity!

Pay attention to your mental environment.  Be aware of what is going on in the world  without being glued to the news cycle every day.  Control people you accept into your social media space.  You’ll begin to spot negativity a mile away! You do not have to quit social media all together.  Cultivate a positive community in your network and you’ll enjoy checking in and interacting with them!

4.    Get out and connect with nature!

Get out and enjoy the outdoors!  Take in all the beauty nature has to offer!  Connecting in nature helps clear your mind of negative thoughts and gives you a boost in positive mood-altering hormones!  Strive for 30 minutes a day or more!

5.    Build strong positive relationships!

Keep in touch with family and friends.  Have a monthly lunch date with dear friends.  Get to know the people you work with and share your positivity with them.  Plan fun activities with your co-workers after work.  If you are working for yourself, join networking groups, groups in your neighborhood or at your place of worship.

6.    Ditch the fixed mindset and adopt a growth mindset!

People with a growth mindset respond better to challenges and setbacks. They are always trying and learning new things!  They have an I CAN attitude!

7.    Look at the big picture!

It can be so easy to drown in the daily details and problems of life and this world.  We should be aware of current events and make a choice not to have them consume our day.  We can take control of filtering what is important and not important.  We can decide on what we can control and what we can’t.

Determine how important an issue is.  Will it matter in 5 hours, 5 days, or 5 years?  Is it really worth worrying about?  There will always be something.  Is my issue greater than what other people are going through?  Probably not.  There are so many people with much greater problems than mine or yours.

Cultivating a positive mindset doesn’t mean your world is perfect.  We all have our ups and downs.  We all need to give ourselves grace on those down days and pull out our positivity tools.
