Idiots stop thinking. Successful people start doing.
Action works.
Ideas never realized remain dreams unfulfilled. Success requires persistence, effort, and sacrifice.
But the dark side of action kills many promising ideas. Overthinking isn't the problem. It's underacting.
Keep reading for tips on how to keep thinking and start doing.
Here's an example from my own life:
Action without thought
I'm doing well in my business, building sound systems, and have many clients with more on the way.
Whenever a client complains, I'd jump on the issue and fix it for them immediately.
Clarity around core issues, focus on what matters, thoughtful action planning, and solid execution within a defined plan suffered as being responsive to client issues were always first.
My morale, stamina, and confidence dropped after years of running a business like this.
Action with thinking
I'm doing well in my business, building sound systems, and have many clients with more on the way.
Whenever a client complained, I'd explore what was happening in their world. Then, once the cause of the complaint made sense, I'd decide if the issue mattered strategically and how to adjust the system or fix a process to solve the problem and avoid issues with other clients.
Clarity around core issues, focus on what matters, thoughtful action planning, and solid execution within a defined plan gave me a feeling of control and the opportunity to know my market better than they know themselves, leading to confidence and success for all.
My morale, stamina, and confidence increased after years of running a business like this.
Here are a few ideas to get into a life of intelligent action:
💡 Observe and think constantly. People tell you what they want, but many of us don't listen carefully and take action when opportunity arises
💡 Always look for opportunities. When you think you know you will miss them. Gaps, cracks, and shifts exist all around us in plain sight
💡 Action means thoughtful action. Work in a tight plan, but don't confuse getting stuff done with setting yourself up for success

💡 Analysis paralysis isn't thinking. It's rumination, combined with procrastination and fear of taking control of your life
💡 Do what fits your personality, but don't let your personability control you. If you like action, think more. If you like thinking, act more than you think
I've learned to think in long time frames. Do things today, expecting results far into the future. Delay gratification and avoid mistakes.
My friend wondered if that makes sense for everybody. For example, some people are more short-term focused.
We all think short-term and want immediate gratification. However, planning for the long term requires effort and sacrifice. It's a learned skill.
Here are a few quotes that inspired me this week.

"It seems that the one characteristic most closely correlated with success in life, which has persisted over the decades, is the ability to delay gratification." Michio Kaku
Many times during my life, I've craved results like an alcoholic wants a drink. It's not good.
My ego, bank account, or old fears trap me in limited thinking.
Watch the video for proof of the importance of refining this learned skill. Taking shortcuts to kill your future success leads to a lifetime of regrets.
