US State Begins Offshore Wind Procurement Process

Janet Mills, the Governor of the US State of Maine, announced on 24 April that the State has begun its process to procure up to 3 GW of offshore wind by 2040, with the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) releasing a Request for Information (RFI) seeking public input to inform the State’s first commercial offshore wind solicitation for the Gulf of Maine.

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) have finalized updated regulations for renewable energy development on the US Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has unveiled plans to launch the fifth offshore wind solicitation (NY5) this summer. In addition, Governor Hochul announced on 23 April that a USD 200 million Supportive Manufacturing and Logistics Request for Proposals (RFP) is open to support infrastructure investments in the state’s domestic offshore wind supply chain.


New York Cancels Three Offshore Wind Projects

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has cancelled three offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of over 4 GW due to ”technical and commercial complexities between provisional awardees and their partners,”.


Ørsted Buys Sunrise Wind Stake from Eversource

US utility Eversource Energy has finalized definitive documents regarding its previously announced agreement to sell its 50 per cent ownership stake in the 924 MW Sunrise Wind offshore wind project to Ørsted.
