The US offshore wind market was bustling with exciting news this week, from project cancellations to another offshore wind solicitation launching this summer.
Janet Mills, the Governor of the US State of Maine, announced on 24 April that the State has begun its process to procure up to 3 GW of offshore wind by 2040, with the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) releasing a Request for Information (RFI) seeking public input to inform the State’s first commercial offshore wind solicitation for the Gulf of Maine.
The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) have finalized updated regulations for renewable energy development on the US Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).
In remarks at the International Partnering Forum conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, the US Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland has announced a new five-year offshore wind leasing schedule, which includes up to 12 potential offshore wind energy lease sales through 2028.
