Stop Forcing Yourself to Feel Good—Actually Set Your Life Up to Feel That Way

In today’s fast-paced world, there’s a constant push to “feel good,” to stay positive no matter the circumstances. But here’s the truth: it’s perfectly normal to feel bad when you’re surrounded by negative people and environments. In fact, your emotional discomfort is your mind’s way of telling you something needs to change.

If you don’t live with intention, the world will dictate your experience.

Most people float through life, reacting to whatever the world throws at them. But if you want to experience true happiness and fulfillment, you need to get intentional about how you live your life. Here are three key principles to help you do just that:

1. Train Your Mind Daily

Most people spend time working on their bodies, but when was the last time you trained your mind? Developing a resilient, positive mindset doesn’t just happen by accident—it requires daily discipline and effort. Make it a priority to fill your mind with knowledge, inspiration, and growth. Whether it’s through reading, listening to podcasts, or practicing mindfulness, you need to feed your mind the way you fuel your body.

2. Pull Away from Negative Energy

If you find yourself consistently drained or down, take a look at the people and environments around you. Negative energy is contagious, and you owe it to yourself to protect your peace. Sometimes, distancing yourself from certain people or situations is the best way to preserve your mental and emotional health. You’re not obligated to stay in toxic environments just because you’re used to them.

3. Be Intentional with Your Life

Here’s the game changer: Set non-negotiables and stick to them. These are the things you absolutely will not allow into your life—whether it’s negativity, certain behaviors, or people who consistently drain your energy. Establish what these boundaries are and live by them. Your time and mental energy are valuable, and you must guard them fiercely.

At the end of the day, life is a reflection of what you allow. If you want to feel good, it’s not about forcing positivity—it’s about intentionally designing your life to support your happiness and well-being.

2018: The Year Everything Changed

In 2018, I hit a turning point. I realized that if I wanted to reach the next level in life, I had to make a significant change. I needed to start spending time with people who were successful, driven, and positive. I took a hard look at the people around me and the energy they brought into my life, and I knew it was time to make some tough decisions.

I made the choice to remove all negativity from my life, no matter how uncomfortable it was. That meant letting go of certain relationships and distancing myself from environments that weren’t contributing to my growth. It wasn’t easy, but it was necessary.

At the same time, I doubled down on investing in myself. I started attending high-level masterminds, reading more, and seeking out mentors who had the mindset and success I aspired to. Surrounding myself with the right people and feeding my mind with positivity and growth-focused ideas completely changed my outlook—and my results followed.
