Strength in Numbers: Golden State Warriors and Kaiser Permanente Double Down on Bay Area Health

Strength in Numbers: Golden State Warriors and Kaiser Permanente Double Down on Bay Area Health

I’m very excited about our hometown basketball team. Yes, on Thursday, the Golden State Warriors begin their quest for a third consecutive NBA title, and fourth in five years. I will be watching Game 1, but my excitement today is for another reason entirely.

Today, the Golden State Warriors and Kaiser Permanente are announcing a partnership that expands the two organizations’ commitment to a healthy Bay Area community as well as highlights Kaiser Permanente’s excellence in sports medicine.

As part of this announcement we will open Thrive City, a community gathering center near the Warriors new home in Mission Bay that will bring people together and promote total health. Thrive City will feature health and fitness event programming to benefit the community, including farmer’s markets, flu clinics, blood pressure screenings, and Get Fit clinics, among other events open to the community. It’s one part of our larger effort to help everyone who lives in our communities live a healthy life.

The announcement today also puts us on the team. Kaiser Permanente are now official team physicians of the Warriors, and our leading team of sports medicine specialists will bring the expert care to the Warriors it has been providing other professional sports players.

Finally, as part of the partnership Kaiser Permanente will open the Sports Medicine Center in the Mission Bay Medical Office this summer, bringing the medical expertise the professionals trust to recreational and every day athletes, and expanding on our track record of sports medicine offerings and excellence.

The announcement today builds on the two organizations’ existing 10-year partnership and recent announcement of Generation Thrive, an initiative that aims to lift up at-risk youth in the community through efforts in three key areas: educational equity, college and career readiness, and health and wellness.

I couldn’t be more excited about this expanded partnership. Two storied Bay Area organizations working together to bring health to the community, and bring home another championship while we’re at it.

So happy to hear about and one day work with Generation Thrive! Where do I sign up?
