Sunny side up

When I interview salespeople one question I always ask is, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the luckiest, how lucky a person are you?

The answers are interesting. As you can imagine, I often get, “I don’t believe in luck. It’s all hard work. It’s up to me.” While that may be true, it’s not the answer I’m looking for to this question.

I want to hear 10!

Because if someone thinks they’re lucky then they are optimistic. And optimistic salespeople sell more.

Study after study shows that people who practice optimism tend to have better overall health and lower levels of stress and anxiety. It can also help us establish healthier relationships with business team members.

Anyone can learn to be an optimist and have a much happier, and healthier life. Here’s three easy things you can do right away.

  1. No matter what the day brings, find something positive that happened and write it down. It’s there if you look for it.
  2. Surround yourself with people who have a positive outlook. They say you’re the sum total of your five closest friends. Who are you spending time with? Take a quick inventory. That goes for business friends too.
  3. Practice gratitude by writing down three things you are thankful for, every day. It’s part of my daily journaling and I can tell you it makes me feel better just to write them down. It will work for you too. Gratitude heals your soul.

So, here’s your Action Item and Mission, should you decide to accept it: Simply try the three optimism-building ideas for a few weeks. And watch how lucky you get.

Optimism is a powerful tool that can help us find the courage and strength to take on any challenge and create positive change in our lives. Why not make a conscious effort to look on the sunny side and make the most of every situation? It's a game-changer.

If you think this would be helpful to anyone else who needs to be more positive, do them a favor, and please share this post. Remember, one hand washes the other and together they get clean. Thank you for watching. I hope you’re feeling like a 10 already! Have a really rewarding week. And I’ll see you next time.

Here's a few more ways to boost your optimism: ➡ Focus on solutions instead of problems: When you're faced with a challenge, instead of dwelling on the problem, try to focus on finding solutions.  ➡ Add in physical activity: Exercise is a great way to boost your mood and increase feelings of optimism. Regular physical activity can release endorphins, reduce stress, and improve mental health. ➡ Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness involves focusing on the present moment and being aware of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment. This can help reduce negative self-talk and increase feelings of positivity and well-being. ➡ Set achievable goals: Setting achievable and meaningful goals can give you a sense of purpose and direction. Accomplishing these goals can help increase your self-esteem and boost your optimism. ➡ Cultivate a growth mindset: Instead of viewing challenges as fixed obstacles, adopt a growth mindset and see them as opportunities for personal growth and development. This can help you increase your resilience and optimism.
