Sustainable Travel Destinations with a Hands-On Experience

EcoWarrior Luxury Tours offers unforgettable collaborative experiences that combine the usefulness of citizen science with the pleasures of luxury tourism.

What is citizen science?

For the curious and adventurous, citizen science takes all the fun and fascination of science without the PhD required to be a Doctor of Science. It allows you to experiment and research alongside scientists on specific projects, focusing on the environment and endangered species.

So what’s so fun about that?

You get to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the sustainable travel destinations of your choice and expand your interests through unique hands-on experiences. You also learn how to reduce your carbon footprint while still enjoying the conveniences of fine dining and a comfortable bed.

What do we offer?

·       A unique hands-on travel experience for the eco-minded traveler.

·       Collaboration with local guides, researchers and scientists

·       A deeper knowledge of local wildlife, ecosystems and ecology.

·       An opportunity to support local communities in their environmental goals and economy

·       Diverse activities and sports, courses, and heaps of fun.

·       Luxurious and personalized accommodation.

Where do we go?

EcoWarrior Luxury Tours currently has four amazing destinations available to the adventurous ecowarrior:

Costa Rica

When it comes to sustainable tourism, Costa Rica has been leading the charge since the 1980s, recognizing the importance of the country’s biodiversity and promoting its natural beauty. It continues to encourage ecotourism by dedicating a quarter of its land to reserves and protected parks. Many hotels and resorts have been awarded the Certificate of Sustainable Tourism (CST) which, added to the rich wildlife, rainforest jungles and stunning beaches, makes it one of our top ecodestinations.

What better place is there to learn about sustainable agriculture and the development of local organic farming and businesses while enjoying the pleasures of a tropical paradise? Visitors will tour coffee and banana plantations and participate in the picking and preparation of fresh produce. Our cooking classes are run by local chefs, experts in nutrition and traditional cuisine.

But there’s still plenty of time afterwards for soaking in healthful hot springs, rafting down rivers and identifying nocturnal wildlife on a nighttime jungle hike.

The Galapagos Islands

Who doesn’t have the Galapagos Islands on their bucket list? With its unique wildlife not found anywhere else on Earth, it’s a popular holiday destination and fortunately one of the best places for ecotourism. With increasing tourism comes increasing threats to the environment which is why the Galapagos National Park has been making important changes that include ecological conservation and sustainable travel.

You will have the opportunity to talk to scientists at the research and conservation centers and volunteer for the tortoise breeding programs. A knowledgeable guide will take you on a tour of some of the best places to visit the reptiles, birdlife and sea creatures that so puzzled and inspired Charles Darwin. For those keen on water sports, snorkeling, diving and surfing classes are available and will keep you busy till the evening’s five-course meal in our 5-star ecolodge.

Sumatra

Since deforestation has become illegal in much of Indonesia, many of the traditional forms of income are being replaced by community-based tourism. People from local villages are becoming the guardians of endangered species and their rainforests. Ecotourism helps provide a sanctuary for many of these animals and helps employ local guides with deep knowledge and understanding of the environment.

Your guides will lead you through the jungle where you will learn all about the complex ecosystems and wildlife habitats. You will participate in tree-planting and study the habitats of the endangered Sumatran orangutan. We offer water rafting in pristine rivers, food preparation of local produce and two nights in a stunning luxurious bamboo tree house.

The USA

For those who prefer a less humid eco experience, the USA boasts numerous National Parks where ecotourism is really taking off. The American Prairie Reserve in Montana has created conservation projects that aim to revive and protect the indigenous wildlife and offers adventures for the more discerning ecotourist. Learn a little history alongside prairie management and habitat restoration with experienced guides.

Enjoy gourmet meals cooked over an open fire, night time astronomy talks and for those interested in honing their photography skills, join the fun classes run by a professional nature photographer. Guests can choose between the cosy comfort of a yurt or the exciting and beautifully decked out covered wagons – waking up every morning to breathtaking sunrises and wide-open spaces.

Travel is a huge industry and the impact it has on the planet is becoming increasingly problematic. Visiting the world’s most fascinating spots while not contributing to its destruction is achievable, and better still, can be of great help to developing countries and environmental projects.
