SWIMMING THE CHANNEL

SWIMMING THE CHANNEL

As many of you know, the Maria Cristina Foundation has been struggling to stay afloat and keep the children at school for the past year. Many of you also know that the founder of the charity, Maria, is extremely determined and does not give up easily. She is now attempting what will be her toughest challenge to date to keep the Foundation going - swimming the English Channel. This is considered one of the toughest challenges in the world and poses many risks to anyone attempting to undertake it.
Maria, who learned to swim last year, has been training in the UK for half a year to complete what most people train for two years at least. She passed her 6-hour qualification swim a week ago and is bracing herself daily with gruelling swims in cold water while fighting with hypothermia and currents amongst others.
There is no guarantee that she will complete the swim. In fact, the swim is so dependent on weather, that there is no guarantee the conditions will allow her to embark on the swim on the 27th of August at all, which makes training even more gruelling.
“This has been the toughest thing I have ever done. I struggle to get in the cold water every single day. I sometimes last an hour, sometimes more. The swim can take up to 27 hours. It is a huge mental as well as physical challenge, but compared to the struggles my 172 children in Bangladesh go through every day, this is nothing.”
We can all help Maria raise the funds we need to continue - even the smallest amount can make a big impact. Your messages of encouragement will also mean so much to Maria. We will be posting weekly updates on her training and provide stories and facts on the Channel swim. Please share and help us tell the world about one woman’s quest to do anything it takes to help the children the world seems to have forgotten.

Let's help Maria and give 172 children a better future together.

You are an inspiration Maria.
