Take the Lead: Reap what you Sow through Conversations

Are you a Farmer or a Hunter?

Or a Fisherman, like me?

Last time we talked about growing pains in business. Which allows me to Take the Lead into mentioning growth this time.

It's no secret that I have my own views on stereotypes.

Be that the farmer, hunter, gatherer or fisherman scenario OR the extravert and introvert variety.

I can only share from my own experience that these 'labels' alter, change and transform over time.

I do, however, like the label of fisherman. Because it serves me and my values.

Don't fish to escape, fish to live life

I have used the saying 'to fish with a spear and not a net' in many a training room which implies there's more than one way to fish.

Starting conversations is like fishing.

There's a lot of preparation involved.

  • What are you looking to catch?
  • Are you fishing in the right pool?
  • Have you got the gear?
  • Do you know how to use the gear?
  • Have you got your tackle and lures?
  • Can you cast and catch the fish?
  • How do you land the fish once you've caught it?

Roughly translates to:

  • Who is your ideal prospect?
  • Where do they hang out?
  • Is what your offering attractive enough?
  • Can you track your progress?
  • What will you say that makes you different?
  • How long will the process of building trust take?
  • What does your aftercare feel like?

Please Hold, I'm on the Other Line

I'd love to hear what all of you think?

Because, as I see it, the questions may all sound the same as the next expert BUT for every single person the answers will be wildly different.

We all need something different. We are all unique.

When you're asking yourself these questions be honest for you not what you think is expected from you.

That's the secret to how I work with my clients. Build the unique picture for you.

Now you can fish with a spear.

It frees you from wondering what you 'should' say to start a conversation because you 'know' what to say.

That's way more sustainable.

Which segways me into the conversation I had recently with Ian C. Williams who has dedicated his life and career to transformational change.

I sought Ian out as a guest for my podcast. The natural world is in danger and I believe that we, as people in business, have a duty to play a responsible part.

The solution to solving the world's problems and much more is explained in the episode. I have a huge amount of respect for Ian and the work he is doing.

We are alive in the century where the human species gets to decide how it's going to respond or not

What do you think about the role Corporate organisations have towards our planet? Do you think they do enough?

Are they transparent enough with their messaging to reassure their staff, customers and the wider public?

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies are a buzzword but do they hold water? What is the best CSR you've come across? I'd love to hear about it.

What have you put into practice in your own business to counter the impact we have on our planet?

Collectively, can we do more together?

For those of you that already have a keen interest, like me, on this subject I would recommend reading Ian's book. It's been featured in Forbes

You can find all you need to listen, buy Ian's book, read the transcript and carry on the conversation with Ian on this link.

Before you go, do you need help putting conversations back to the heart of your business to serve your customers? Let's talk! Use my ChinWAG diary link to find a good time to chat.

LAST, THANKS A BUNCH FOR READING, SHARING, LISTENING AND SUPPORTING!

Remember, you never know where a conversation will lead...it's up to you to take the lead.
