Taking down the Big Ones.
Taking down the Big Ones.
Often small companies are scared of going against big companies online therefore, they stick to traditional offline markets. But what we want to say is that there are ways where you can defeat the big companies online and we are here to help you with that.
When you are a small business there’s a lot to envy the big ones, they have the money, the capital and more but they aren’t all powerful. There are still ways that you can beat them in their own game. Even though you are outnumbered in sources there are still some advantages and we will reveal those in this blog!
Nowadays, technology has advanced a lot and many of us prefer online shopping over the traditional one. So, you need to first come up with a great website. Your website should be genuine and should let the audience know what you are offering. If your website is mobile-enabled then that is even greater because most of your customers will come across it from their smartphones.
Secondly, once you have the website you need to populate it with great content. Great content attracts more people to your website and increases your reach. You can also hire content writers to make content for your page and they will be more than happy to help you with it.
As a small business owner, you need to show people what you have that the big ones do not. The key to winning against others is being real, genuine, flexible, reliable and gaining the trust of your customers. Corporations need personas to represent them because they don’t have a face. You do, so use it.
Big Companies generally spout meaningless branding messages and slogans for the sake of marketing but you need to think and know about your business, why you want that business, what do you expect from your business, know your competitors.
Amazon, for example, is a very big brand and has forced other major businesses to step it up. So how can a small business compete with a big business, they just have to be better strategically.
You have to do what big businesses cannot do:
- They can’t be the leader in one particular category: If you have a business of a particular category like toys or sports equipment then you can do better than the others because you expertise it in it. You can recommend the best product, compare two products and actually chat with a person and offer them advice. Big companies generally do not interact much with the customers but you can.
- They can’t provide value other than on price: When you own a business, you have the liberty to set a price. People purchase on emotion, if you can prove that why your product is superior as compared to others and why people should purchase it even if the price is higher then you are providing value in ways other than being the cheapest. But again, your products and services must be genuine.
- They can’t provide customer service the way you can: Think about it, you can easily interact with your customers, send them personal emails by using Mailchimp or any other app and ask them how they are liking your products or services so far. Let’s face it, the big guys cannot provide great customer service. They run a high volume, low margin business. And this low margin comes at a price. Top notch customer service is not included. People buy from those whom they trust and you need to gain their trust by your products as well as your customer service. By demonstrating great customer service — before, during, and after the sale your customers will prefer you over others.
- They cannot be anything other than a faceless corporation: One way of competing against the big guys is by making it personal by putting a face for your business. Show the audience your real side, embrace your mistakes and show them what you learnt from it. People purchase from emotions and from the businesses they trust, by showing your real side the people would feel more connected and prefer you over the others. Being personal and real is something not all the big guys can do so use it for your advantage.
Even if you have less funds there are many tools that you can enjoy for your benefits and helps you track data. With some research and implementing a right digital branding strategy you can easily compete with the big guys in a short time and win the make an impact in the market.
The key giveaway is to be real, creative, authentic and genuine. Be personal, take care of your customers, gain their trust and keep making/providing good quality products/services and learn from your mistakes. Being a small company does not necessarily mean that you cannot go against the big guys. With courage and dedication, you can achieve that and we hope that you will start it soon!
