Telemedicine is the use of computerized information and communication technology to offer and support healthcare, while individuals are separated by a significant distance.

"Tele" comes from a Greek word that means "distant," and "medicine" comes from a Latin word that means "to treat." Telemedicine has been dubbed "healing by wire" by People magazine. Telemedicine was formerly thought to be a "futuristic" "experiment," and now it is a reality and here to stay.

History of Telemedicine:

It was created by NASA and ran from 1972 until 1975. Its objectives are to provide medical treatment to scientists in orbit and the Papago Reservation in general. The National Museum of Modern medical Lister Hills International Centre for Biological Communication chose 26 sites in Alaska in 1971 to test whether dependable communication could improve village medicine. It made use of ATS-1, only one of NASA's Technical Education Satellites, which was deployed in 1966. The study's main goal was to see if satellite video consultation may help enhance the quality of remote healthcare in Alaska.
