Tell Your Truth

Tell Your Truth

Living in a society that is ever-changing on what the expectations for ourselves should be is a challenge to say the least. As time goes on and people are constantly evolving, sometimes it can be hard to really recognize what our truths are and how we want to walk through life most authentically. A lot of the time we probably disregard our own truths because it’s what we’ve always been doing. In fairness, we were never really taught to do otherwise. We’re told to follow the leader, stand in straight lines, and do what is expected of us. In some way it’s good that we’re taught these lessons as children, but they can also hinder us from maximizing our highest potential. It IS possible to live your realest truth while also being a valuable asset to society and yourself.

When we have desires for great things in our lives, we shouldn’t disregard them. For example, saying “I could never be brave enough to follow my dream of moving to NYC to pursue acting”, you’re suppressing your hopes and dreams. Even though you may believe the lie in your head, it doesn’t mean it has to be true in your life. People may actually encourage the lies we tell ourselves because they’re authenticity has also been spat on. Conforming to the specific demands of society, family members, or insincere friends can crush your self-esteem. At the end of the day, you’re not living for you. You are living for someone else, and chances are that person isn’t even happy with his/herself. That’s why they’re projecting on you to not pursue your dreams. The only people that you should be happy with your decisions are yourself and God. If both of those people are happy, chances are life is going to be pretty sweet. On the contrary, if we decide to suppress our own thoughts and feelings, we’re basically teaching others around us that it’s okay to disregard our feelings. If we can’t even listen to ourselves seriously, it’s laughable to think that anyone else would.

When you see interviews from people who are near the end of their life or old in age, they often are asked, “What do you wish you would’ve done sooner or at all?”. This may seem like a pretty broad question, but every single answer is always uniquely specific to each man or woman. They wished they wouldn’t have cared what so many people thought about them, or told that one person they loved them. If you knew that today was your last day on earth, what would you do and who would you do it with? That puts into perspective that life is precious, and we’re doing ourselves a serious disservice by not listening to our intuition and being the realest person God has created us to be.
