Job Description and Duties

The California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Legal Division is seeking a permanent full-time Attorney Supervisor for the Technology & Administrative Litigation (ITAL) Branch. This role involves supervising a collaborative team of high-performing attorneys.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice, representation, and support across all CDSS divisions.
  • Collaborate with the Administrative Division and divisional clients on procurement, contracts, grants, employee matters, and audits.
  • Partner with the Information Systems and Research Automation Data Divisions to maintain data security and manage privacy, data-sharing, and public records.
  • Coordinate Department-wide procedures for Service of Process and Public Record Act requests.
  • Represent CDSS in administrative tribunals and lead the Legal Academy training program.
  • Supervise and evaluate subordinate attorneys and paralegals, develop strategies, and handle complex assignments.

Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal communication skills and excellent analytical abilities. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in:

  • State and federal procurement and contracting laws and policies.
  • Contract and grant development, evaluation, and monitoring.
  • Legal aspects of information technology procurements.
  • Contract management and compliance principles.


Requirements:

Candidates should demonstrate extensive experience as house counsel or government representation in these areas. The position requires strong collaborative skills to work effectively with management and staff at all levels. Hiring is contingent on Department of Finance approval.
