Thriving Through Challenges: The 7 Steps to Transform your inner Energy, and Overcome Challenges
In the face of daily work challenges, it's essential to unlock the secrets to feeling good and embracing a state of thriving.
During your professional journey, you encounter numerous challenges that trigger the release of the survival chemical, cortisol, also known as the stress hormone.
This places you in a catabolic energy state, encountering unpleasant feelings and diverting your focus to survival mode.
However, we have the key to understanding why this occurs within our magnificent brains.
Deep within our neural architecture lies the limbic system—a human web responsible for releasing chemicals that dictate whether we should pursue or avoid certain situations. Surrounding this system is another important part called cortex which tirelessly seeks patterns from the past to make sense of the present.
Together, they harmonize to ensure our survival and the preservation of our DNA.
The limbic system evolved to safeguard us from predators and drive us to find food and seek shelter.
Once those needs are met, this system instinctively pivots toward social survival.
This help us to strive for alpha status, seek acceptance within groups, and excel to secure better mate opportunities while protecting our offspring.
Although consciously you might not think this is true, but our survival-oriented brain follows this blueprint since the beginning of life.
Returning to the daily challenges you encounter, your limbic system raises alerts that failing to overcome them could result in a social threat. Perhaps you fear public humiliation in front of colleagues or missing a promotion opportunity that could impact your future prospects for survival.
While our brain pathways have already been established, as humans, we possess the remarkable ability to rewire them. By forging new connections between the cortex and the limbic system, we engage in what experts call neuroplasticity which is defined on Wikipedia as: the ability of Neural Network in the brain to change through growth and reorganization. It is when the brain is rewiring again to function in some way that differs from how it previously functioned.
Now, let's embark on the 7 transformative steps to shift your Energy state from catabolic to anabolic, enabling you to feel empowered and overcome any challenge, and to help you rewire your brain into the growth mindset path.
Grab a pen and paper, as writing stimulates your brain and generates many ideas:
1️⃣ Stop and Breathe: The negative feelings triggered by challenges are often manifestations of cortisol, the stress hormone. The antidote lies in the simple act of conscious breathing. Clear your mind and allow your body to naturally rid itself of these chemicals. Remember, just as resting between sets during physical exercise eliminate lactic acid build-up so you can continue with your workout, breathing helps cleaning away the cortisol.
2️⃣ Raise Awareness: Understand that these intense feelings are coming from our brain's response to perceived threats, be they physical or social.
Recognize that the emotional intensity may be exaggerated, providing a fresh perspective.
3️⃣ Evaluate the True Situation: Ask yourself, "What is the worst that could happen?" " Would I live through it? "
How much this task or challenge is aligned with your purpose?
If you find it matches, then you can unlock unlimited power as you will recognise the importance of doing it! If you can't link it with your Purpose, propose changes to your boss or delegate tasks to colleagues who excel in such areas that you don’t see value!

4️⃣ Be a Friend to Yourself: Imagine a dear friend facing the same challenge.
What advice would you offer them? Write it down and notice how it makes you feel. Remember, we often offer better guidance to others, so tap into that wisdom and guide yourself with the same compassion.
5️⃣ Craft a Clear Plan: Define a concrete plan with a timeline and establish how you will hold yourself accountable.
6️⃣ Take Action: Procrastination is the enemy of progress.
Embrace the present moment and commence your journey without waiting for the "perfect" conditions. Adjustments can always be made along the way.
