Town’s new chief compliance officer focuses on the Historic District

The Town of Collierville's Building and Codes Division welcomes Sher Dunn as the new Chief Compliance Officer. With a diverse professional background, Sher brings a range of experience and a fresh perspective to the role. Originally from the Bakersfield area in California, she has lived in various parts of the United States, including Kentucky, Louisiana, Texas, and even spent some time overseas. Her journey to Collierville began during the COVID-19 pandemic when she and her husband decided to relocate from California.

“We loved the wide streets, cleanliness, and small-town charm of Collierville,” said Sher.

Sher's career in municipal work started in Kentucky, where she was involved in building permits and code compliance. As the Town’s Chief Compliance Officer, Sher's primary focus will be on maintaining the integrity and beauty of the downtown historic district. She aims to ensure that all developments and renovations adhere to the Town's guidelines, preserving the unique character and heritage of the area.

Sher is excited about her role and the opportunity to work closely with the community. She emphasizes the importance of preserving historical elements, noting once they are gone, they cannot be replicated. Her enthusiasm for history and dedication to maintaining the Town's aesthetic charm will be an asset as she takes on this new challenge.

The Town’s Historic District encompasses more than Collierville Town Square. While the Square is the core, or heart of the district, surrounding neighborhoods have been included (see the map below). These areas adhere to the Town’s Historic District Ordinances which is overseen by the Historic District Commission appointed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. The Historic District Commission meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 4:00 pm in Collierville Town Hall; see upcoming meetings and agendas here: colliervilletn.gov/publicmeetings.
