Transferable skills, or portable skills, are exactly what they sound like: abilities and expertise you can use across various roles and industries.

They are like your professional passport Level Up in any career,  they go with you wherever you go! 

Why transferable skills are important?

 Employers value transferable skills because they allow you to hit the ground running in any job considering your competency & learning ability. When you transition to a new role, these skills enable you to contribute immediately without extensive training.

Which skills are they exactly?

They are a mix of soft skills & hard skills….

1. Interpersonal skills: communication, teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, Emotional intelligence, empathy, delegation, conflict resolution, motivation, coaching/mentoring, leadership.

1. Intrapersonal inside you between you and yourself like: Self-confidence, self-reflection, open-mindedness, motivation, emotional awareness, mindfulness, value, and resilience.

1. Hard or technical skills like project management, Computer skills, analytical skills, Attention to Detail business language writing, digital & internet skills, presenting your impact, strong business English language...etc.

1. Conceptual skills: strategic thinking, problem-solving, adaptability to change, innovation, Attention to Detail, ideation

They are not mutually exclusive, they are in intersecting, meaning they work together in harmony to define your professional passport.

How to improve them?

1. Self-assess and check where you are on a scale from 1-3 and where are you standing on each skill of them. 1 = You don't know this skill or heard about it but don't know what it means exactly, 2= You learned this skill before, but you are not consistently applying it or demonstrating it on a daily basis, 3= You are applying this skill on a daily basis to the extent you are skilled at this skill or having competency level.

2. Define which ones are really aligned with what you are doing currently and/or what you want to be doing as a job in the future, so you can prioritize now.

3. Goal & plan to improve them so action happens.
