Transformation Thursday: Meal Prepping, 3 Fears & Festive Season Tactics

On Sunday I ran a half marathon race, clocking 1:37:01.

I trained for 12 weeks and continuously visualised crossing the finish line below 1:40:00.

So to come in near 3 minutes under and breaking my all-time personal best by 5:33 was special.

In the past few days I’ve been thinking about how different racing is to regular training runs.

Most training runs are just “boring” laps around the park. Race days are totally different - the buzz, excitement and adrenaline is something else.

And whilst I felt confident in hitting my goal, I still had the following in my head just before:

“Will I be able to hold the pace?”

“What if I get injured?”

“What if I can’t finish or cramp up?”

Chatting to a few people around the start line… they had the same.

The build up to a race is similar to starting a body transformation.

One emotion dominates: fear.

And it’s always one of three fears:

  • Fear of failure

  • Fear of judgement

  • Fear of the unknown

It’s a fear of “is it possible for my lifestyle?”, “can I actually do this?”, or “what if I fail?”

A big reason I love physical challenges is it forces you to face your fears daily.

It’s training for the real world.

Each day you get an opportunity to win a mini battle in your mind to move forward.

That’s why I believe what we do is so much more than the physical…

Truth is, the first step is always the hardest to take.

But once you begin your journey, there’s no going back. Life isn’t the same.

You just keep stacking small wins, and the confidence you build outgrows any of your fears.

And that’s when you unlock the secret sauce to crazy results:

Momentum.

What starts with small physical changes always leads to the next question:

“What else is possible?”

That’s the beauty of a transformation journey.

Especially one that’s underpinned by a proven blueprint battletested in 1000s around the world.

3 Ways To Look, Feel & Perform Your Best

1. Meal prepping will make or break your transformation

If you’re trying to juggle family, work and a social life, time is precious.

Spending 60 minutes on meal prep every week will give you BACK time you never knew you had.

2. Don’t try make 21 different meals a week

On the topic of meal prep, here’s my #1 pro tip to make it 10x easier:

Keep your diet ‘samey’. Don’t try to make 21 different meals every week.

It’s not sustainable unless you want to live in the kitchen. At the very least, make your weekdays the same.

You’ll be amazed at the mental bandwidth this saves you.

3. If after 12 months you’re lifting the same weights as now, it’s likely you’ll look exactly the same.

If you’ve got ambitions to build your physique, you need to track your workouts.

Most of all, you need to ensure that over time, you’re applying progressive overload.

So if you’ve not got a log book, either in a notepad or as an app, start with your next workout!
