True Leadership Among Chaos
After reading quite some current news on the national campus protests and arrests, living in New York City, I decided to go to Columbia University to do a Live video and some interviews onsite to learn and understand the truth better, instead of just depending on the mainstream media.
Right after the Protests and chaos, I would share and discuss: What is True Leadership? For the World Peace, Win-Win-Wins, and the Abundance of All.
I'm sharing the Live video replay below, plus my interviews in the following article, as I could not shoot videos with people onsite, at such a sensitive time, to protect their privacy and safety.
Watch Spring's Live Video at Columbia University:
I met Frank first, (a pseudonym for him), an NBC crew member staying all day facing Columbia University's main entrance, with a lot of reporting equipment around him. It was a quiet day, right after the chaos. We had a very friendly chat and I gave my fresh strawberry and banana smoothie to him. After I did the Live video on Facebook, and said goodbye to Frank, I also walked around near the university entrance, and chatted with quite a few students, around 9 of them.
My chat with Frank was very relaxed, as he was not a reporter, not a "professional" as he referred to who may have to follow a system. We chatted more like a third party with independent perspectives, in our genuine voices. As a regular person, he said that such protests were a waste of time, and those students may regret it someday later in their lives as it may ruin their records or opportunities. He said if he had kids, he would have grabbed them away from it from the very beginning. He also expressed how easily the public could be misled and even fooled by some mainstream forces with huge money or power benefits behind the scenes.
Nearby the crossroad, right across the street from the university's entrance, there is a coffee bar. I saw quite some college students sitting by small tables, drinking and chatting. I walked to one table with three of them, all white youths, like good friends. I inquired about their experience with the protests. They said they all attended the protests, but they did not set up camps except that they visited some of them, nor did they go to the Hamilton Hall occupancy. They said it was quite peaceful until the negotiation did not work, and it escalated. They also admitted that there are Jewish students among protesters as well. They felt pity for the result and also felt disappointed with the administration. From their state, I knew they would move on.
I walked across the street and got closer to the entrance, where the metal grill door was closed, with a tent, table, security people, and policemen around. Students, faculty, and staff need to show their campus IDs to get in or out. So no outsiders could get in. I saw three Asian students walking their way to the entrance with some groceries in their hands. I asked them about the protest, one said "I don't want to talk about it", the other two kept silent, and they all kept walking in the entrance direction.
One female student with dark-color skin was wearing earphones and walking out of the entrance. She answered my questions. She said they felt fear, mainly because of the policemen around the campus. Even though she did not agree with those protesters, if there was no punishment threat, she said she would do the protest.
Then on another side of a building close to the entrance, I met two Asian students one after another, coincidently, both of them are Korean. And they clearly said that they don't care about such events and protests.
One of them is a Master's student in Math. We had a very interesting and long chat. He was very frank, sharp, and straight. He said those protesters are not helping anyone, because they do not have resources, even caring about those remote wars is stupid. When I mentioned Forbes' new IVY lists and the negative feedback of the market on current IVY students, which may negatively impact their future careers, he said it would not impact him. He wants to become very rich, by being an entrepreneur in the future to have his own business, which will eventually help more people than those protesters who are distracted now. To him, finishing study, making money, and having a happy life with his family and friends is his priority. He said, "Their selflessness is actually selfishness as they could not help much. My selfishness is actually selflessness which will help more people." He is a smart and good debater. And he admitted that he is a capitalist. I would guess he will become rich with that kind of clear goal, focus, and confidence. But I hope not every IVY student will be like that, and I could not imagine how this world will become with all the capitalists around us.
Since major protesters were arrested, maybe they will be released later and leave the campus soon, I did not get a chance to meet them to learn about their thoughts and inner journey. I hope there will be some conscientious journalists who can follow and report these college student protesters. I mentioned in the Live video the danger of a single story throughout the media nowadays. We need more media going into the truth and diverse stories.
For the IVY Protesters, I would open Free Coaching and Mentoring to help them through the current most challenging time, which universities including the IVYs fail to provide, in the context of regional conflicts and crucial wars that the major governments, politics, and organizations fail to solve.
