Is TRUTH Still Relevant?

Our discussion begins with an understanding of relevance. It is defined as being “to the purpose; being applicable or pertinent to the matter at hand.” Truth matters, both to us as individuals and to society. As individuals, being truthful means that we can grow and mature, learning from our mistakes. For society, truthfulness makes social bonds, and lying and hypocrisy break them. TRUTH is relevant because it is the foundation of everything else. Without TRUTH we cannot trust. Without TRUTH we cannot love. These seem foundational but they are often overlooked.

So yes, the question of relevance is important.

Everyone has a sense of what they believe to be true. Since we can’t interpret facts objectively, it can only be assumed that TRUTH is subjective. Yes, there are things that everyone can agree to as being true, such as the idea that we are born, that we are alive, and that we will die. But aside from that, there are several different things that can only be argued to be true such as the idea of heaven and hell, whether there is life outside of Earth, and so on. So, by that thought, truth cannot be viewed as something objective. For something to be objective, everyone must agree upon it. If there’s a person who thinks otherwise, it must be considered subjective. Truth is the idea that people know that it’s true based on their concepts, though not everyone agrees with them, their ideas, their experiences, their knowledge, and their emotions. Human nature needs to adapt physically, mentally, or socially to its environment.

Without TRUTH, there can be no real morality, justice, equality, unity, success, freedom, love, security, peace, spirituality or even survival. TRUTH is essential for authentic communication to occur and makes genuine interaction between people possible. If TRUTH was not expected, it would not be long before communication would entirely break down. Imagine what it would be like living in a society in which no one expected the truth. How could a person discern what is accurate and what is a falsehood? On what basis could a person make important decisions if there was no expectation of the truth? Life would be chaotic without the norm of honesty.

The difference between knowing and not knowing is checking. Nothing could be simpler. If you care enough about the truth to check what it is, you will know the truth of life. The sad truth is, most people do not care, and mankind and our world are being destroyed as a result.  TRUTH is what they are told is true without question or doubt.  If you care about the TRUTH, now is the time to prove it!

I have been pursuing TRUTH in this newsletter now for some time using different concepts and words. The topics I have focused on included Patience, Change, Hope, Happiness, Wisdom, Vision, Choices, Perseverance, Leadership, and the Power of Words, to name just a few. I’m not sure that I am any closer to finding the TRUTH, but I will continue to check because I believe in TRUTH.
