TRUTH VS CAREER
I often find myself grappling with the fear of becoming that politician—the one who dares to speak out against injustices, even when they are perpetuated by her own party. I worry that this unwavering commitment to truth and accountability might limit how far I can go in the political arena.
In politics, standing up against wrongs within your own ranks is often labeled as anti-party behavior, a betrayal of loyalty. The consequences can be severe—ostracism, loss of influence, or even expulsion from the party. Yet, I cannot bring myself to sit idly by when things are not as they should be. Silence in the face of wrongdoing would make me complicit, and I refuse to be part of a system that prioritizes self-preservation over integrity.
This struggle is not unique to me, but in a world like ours, taking such a stand is often misunderstood and dismissed as overreaching. It’s a lonely path to walk, one that makes me question whether my political career will ever thrive while adhering to these principles. One that makes me question whether to follow the path of truth or do all it takes to grow in my political career.
Still, I am torn between the reality of politics as it is and the vision of politics as it ought to be. Will there ever be room in this world for leaders who prioritize truth and accountability above all else? I don’t know. For now, I can only hope that staying true to my values will lead to a meaningful impact, no matter how far the journey takes me.
Sigh.
