UK manufacturing PMI hits a 26-month high, plus US group buys Sewtec Automation

The crucial role that data plays in today’s manufacturing environment has been brought home by a recent report from ABI Research which predicts that, by 2030, manufacturers around the world will be generating 4.4 zettabytes of OT (operational technology) data every year – similar to the amount generated by all of the world’s mobile phone users. Any problems with, or corruption of, that vast amount of industrial data could have severe consequences. ABI suggests that to minimise the risk of such problems, manufacturers will need to think carefully about issues such as how they store and manage their data, and how they protect it against cyberattacks. In future, IT specialists could be as important to manufacturers as their production engineers.

Electronic circuit breaker system: communication via EtherNet/IP™

More possible applications for the Caparoc circuit breaker system from Phoenix Contact: With the new power module with EtherNet/IP™ interface, the system can be used in other communication systems. EtherNet/IP™ is one of the leading industrial network protocols in the USA. The fields of application encompass various industries, but above all factory automation and the process industry. With the new power module, the customisable circuit breaker system can now also be used in these areas. The large selection of circuit breaker modules and the potential distribution module facilitates the design of an individual system with EtherNet/IP™ communication interface. An online configurator is also available to adjust and mark the system directly.

Leuze ODT3CL1-2M: A real marvel when it comes to distance

With the new ODT3CL1-2M laser diffuse sensor, the Sensor People from Leuze are extending the operating range of their 3C series distance sensors. Thanks to innovative time-of-flight (TOF) technology, the switching and measuring sensor with background suppression works with an operating range of up to two meters. This makes the ODT3CL1-2M suitable for all applications in intralogistics where long distances need to be covered: e.g. in automated guided vehicles for monitoring the position of goods, for controlling robot grippers or in quality control. Reliable use is guaranteed even under harsh conditions. This is because the sensor satisfies the high requirements of IP69K.
