In our recent "The Morning Mindset with Kisha Hicks" session, we tackled the subtle yet potent psychological barriers that often hinder our progress. These are not mere obstacles; they are the unconscious scripts that subtly direct our actions and choices, impacting all aspects of our lives.

Common Psychological Barriers:

  • Fear of Failure: Many hold back from new opportunities due to fear of making mistakes. This fear is about more than failure itself; it concerns how these failures might affect our self-esteem and others' perceptions of us.
  • Comfort in the Status Quo: Familiarity can be deceptively comfortable, even when unfulfilling. We often cling to what we know, fearing the unknown and missing out on opportunities that require us to step out of our comfort zones.
  • Self-Doubt: This inner critic makes us question every decision. Driven by a deep-seated need to belong and be accepted, self-doubt can prevent us from taking steps that would lead to personal growth.

 

The Impact of These Barriers:

Psychological barriers do more than cause personal dissatisfaction and career stagnation; they shape our interactions, risk tolerance, and mental health. Living with these barriers can erode our sense of purpose and make us feel trapped in our own lives.

 

During the  livestream, we not only identified these barriers but also began to tackle them. Acknowledging these hidden forces is crucial for regaining control over our lives and careers. This recognition paves the way for significant changes that enhance both our external achievements and internal fulfillment.

 

Recognizing these barriers marks the start of a journey; our session provided insights to transition from awareness to actionable strategies, fostering substantial growth in our personal and professional lives.

 Our exploration into overcoming stagnation has yielded practical methods encapsulated in the MOVE acronym, designed to spur real change:

  1. Momentum: Start Small Begin with manageable actions that build confidence. For example, enhance your public speaking by contributing in meetings or joining Toastmasters, gradually building momentum.
  2. Opportunities: Seek Challenges Growth emerges from discomfort. Pursue projects outside your usual scope or explore new hobbies that push your boundaries and expand your perspective.
  3. Visualization: Set Clear Goals Regularly envision achieving your goals—whether it’s leading a project or learning a new skill. This mental imagery aligns your subconscious efforts with your conscious objectives.
  4. Engagement: Connect with Others Combat isolation by engaging with mentors, peers, and supportive communities. These connections provide fresh insights, encouragement, and accountability.

Implementing MOVE: This week, focus on one aspect of MOVE to integrate into your routine. Update your LinkedIn profile, attend a workshop, or start a small project. Each step, no matter how small, moves you away from stagnation towards a more dynamic and fulfilling life.
